How come these two never fought each other?

This is not a fantasy fight thread. I want to know why they never fought?

This would have been a war an a pretty even matchup. Im leaning towards Bonavena but just barely.

Well -- stick your Ringo up your snoz:yep I got Quarry!

But seriously, it just seems like such a natural fight to make that I've been curious for a long time about why thay never fought. I was hoping someone on here might know.

I'm thinking that Quarry would box carefully (relatively so) vs Oscar and would be mindful not to get careless with Ringo like he did against Chuvalo....and that Chuvalo fight was the fluke of flukes, BTW.

If Quarry fought a counterpuncher's fight,he'd win by decision. No idea why they did n't get it together.

well bonavena is pretty easy to counter so if he fights him like he fought lyle quarry would win by decision.
if he went to war then he would have a good chance of KOing Bonavena.

I like Quarry to win a UD but the awkward Ringo short and stocky at 5"10 could be a tough night

Taking nothing away from Bonavena I would give Quarry the edge.

Right..I'd take nothing away from Ringo, but Quarry was much more sophisticated and skillfull for him..I think a cool head would prevail for Jerry and he'd win a competitive decision.

My guess is that it was simply a matter of circumstances. They would have fought in the elimination tourney if Oscar hadn't gotten eliminated by Ellis. Then shortly after Oscar got the chance he'd always wanted, which was a rematch against Frazier. Then he gets a shot at Ali right after that. Then the chronic hand injuries begin and his career founders from there (proposed match with Foreman falls through, etc).

I asked Quarry's mom many years ago why those two never fought. She told me they tried to make the match several times but Oscar never would sign on. Take that for what it's worth.

She did mention how much she liked Oscar personally. That whenever she saw him he always said "Mawmaa!" and fawned over her and was really charming and sweet to her.

Kinda nice to think of Ringo that way, y'know?
