I saw it earlier on a page which claimed it as Pep/Famechon, giving a back story into the roughing tactics Famechon applied that led to this, but given the film of the fight it's clear that it isn't the same men (different trunks), at least not both of them. Anyone? This content is protected
The ref looks like Arthur Donavan ,which ,if it is, places the fight in the US ,the guy standing up resembles Armstrong a bit ,but maybe too rangy? If it was, possibly it is Armstrong v Lew Jenkins first fight ,[17th July 1940], and the ref was Donovan. Armstrong won tko 6th rd. Just a guess. It isnt Pep v Famechon [17th march 1950], because the referee for that was Ruby Goldstein, and that is definitely not Ruby pictured.
I think that is Willie Pep in his first NY fight at MSG Koing Frank Franconeri in 1st round Sept 10, 1942..Ref is either Arthur Donavan or Frank Fullmer. I could be wrong though...
I didn't think that was evident from the picture, but thanks for telling me. I won't take up anymore of your time.:hi:
I can't add anything as to who is fighting in the picture, however, judging from the colours of the trunks the fighters are wearing (purple for the downed fighter & black and red for the upright fighter), this fight is closer to 1940 than it is to 1950.
