This nails it on the head. This isn't a showcase for boxing...its barely a showcase for David Haye. Its a freak show. And you know what - freak shows do sell...once! But what happens when you get all those new fans to pay for a PPV and then give them a shitty show? How is that going to create any new fans? Look at how the UFC handled Toney vs. Couture. They knew it was a freakshow fight so they built a full card around it. That's what Sky should be doing. Obviously Haye and Harrison can't do that themselves...so they should go to Warren or Maloney and give them a cut of the ppv to put together a good undercard. Hell, reach to Adamek and put him in the semi-main so that you can start exposing him to the British audience. Just do something so that we're never put in this ****ing awful position again.
PS - I hope this PPV bombs spectacularly. Hopefully the view of the hardcore fan will trickle through to the mainstream and the publicity will be awful. Trust Sky, Sun etc to hype it like it means something.
Dont matter how many threads are made protesting. How many fans are in disgust at Hayes choices. I guarentee - Haye wont give a **** - he is happy to face Audely - a guy he believes he will beat comfortbaly - and is rubbing his hands in glee at the £2,500,000 to add to his ever growing personal fortune. This fight will secure Hayes 2 kids futures - and pay for their education and savings for when they turn adults. This fight will secure Hayes finances even more. Like he gives a **** what his fans think. Money orientated Haye is out to make as much money as he can.
With David Haye and Adam Booth you never know, they could spring a surprise.Last year Vitali thought he had a deal done, then Haye Announced he was fighting Valuev.I hope lightning will strike twice but i doubt it.
3 fights from now - thats about over 18 months in Hayes current activity - and another £10-15 million in career earnings - Haye might actually seriously consider having his last fight against Wlad for the big final pay day. Then again - he may just decide to retire - and cut his losses - and save himself a painful loss.
I admire and respect Haye ... a shrewd business man first and boxer second ... the guys got talent and makes decisions which will make him the most wonga ! ..... boxing is a business first at the top end then a sport. A bit like alot of high class sports money decides who , what , where and when !!
Sorry, but I tune in to watch boxing, that's what I pay money for, that's why I follow the SPORT. If I wanted to watch people purely making money, I'd tune into 'the apprentice' or hang around Wall Street with my tongue hanging out.
Lot's of fighters do more than they have to to earn their purse eg we see time and time again fighters going for it in the later rounds, even though they are way ahead on the cards, when all they need to do is just cruise to a victory already in the bag. They are not doing that just for money or even to win the title, there's still gladly more to boxing than simply money or path of least resistance.
Haye would redeem himself a canny bit if the announcement wasnt haye harrison but haye adamek. Aye, then harrison sprott. Thatd be a good card. Hmmmmmmmm i hope so. Where is the announcement? Will it be on skysports news?
I think it will be something like this, I'm still finding it hard to believe that he's going to fight Harrison.
