a reasonable response, i got no problem with people taking vitali's word that no-one will fight him. and povetkin and haye publicly turned it down. i got no problem with vitali fighting a man who has called him out for a decade.

but as long people accept in truth it is a joke of a fight, and vitali will batter briggs from pillar to post, and will not earn much credit in the process.

infact people saying a briggs victory would be a great victory for vitali are doing him a disservice IMHO

This post sums it up. Briggs is not the best out there, but because he is a big puncher, he has a better chance then some ranked over him.

A high risk, low reward type of fight for Vitali.

i dont think there is any risk to vitali's belt come fight night. he is far far too good for a man who has been beaten by far worse boxers.

you said it yourself and so far this is the general sense about the fight, he's the best of what's available, it's a stay-busy fight and a victory isn't going to mean much in the general scheme of things.
best possibly outcome is that Vitali knocks Briggs out in the first (which probably won't happen) and the worst possible outcome is that Vitali loses (which basically won't happen) or that he looks poor in a victory.
Other then that, finding a 'credible' and available yet weaker opponent then Briggs is a pretty tall order mostly because (at least as far as I'm concerned) in order to do that Briggs has to first fit into that 'credible' category himself.

this does seem to be the general opinion that people are avoiding vitali, briggs is willing to fight and vitali wants to stay active. it seems it just a minority who will put any credence into a vitali victory.

Problem is as far as Vitaly is concerned - while this may be a 'stay busy' fight - so was his last one.

It looks very, very bad for Vitaly IMO. If he can't get people to fight him, OK. But you can only go for so long fighting guys that realisticlly aren't even in the top 20 fighters in the world. ****, Briggs would be lucky to be top 30 to be honest.

briggs atm is probably somewhere between 30 and 35, anyone with a chin will beat him IMO.

see there are two sides to every story, on one hand his last two fights have been vs the european champion and a former world champion, but on the other, like you say, neither where ranked anywhere in the top 30.

sosnowski IMO aint as good as harrison, he got schooled by zuri lawrence, and didnt look as good beating a more faded version of williams.

credit to vitali tho, he has fought peter, johnson and arreola since coming back. plus his mandatory. but his last two voluntary defences aint been too clever. its a shame the bigger fights cant be made.

IMO the bigger fights cannot be made because Vitali is the most feared fighter at the moment, there are still fighters who think they have a chance against Wlad, but with Vitali he is just a punishing machine, everyone sees him as a lose-lose situation, Haye must have pissed his pants when Vitali punched him on his arm and stole his hat. I wouldnt be surprised if Briggs cried and begged for the towel to be thrown.

could well be, the thing is tho IMO vitali is the easier of the two because he is aging, i get the feeling a small mobile athletic fighter would be able to outpoint him.

i dont see wlad losing now until he retires.

i suppose for vitali tho he has already had his big fight vs lewis. i dont wlad has had that defining fight yet, infact i think the best opponent wlad has faced so far could be chris byrd.

Fair enough, age could be a factor of course, I cannot imagine that though, Vitali had never been outboxed or outpointed and he is a smart boxer, those who tried to box with him failed except maybe Lennox. Both K's are very good, I always thought Vitali was the stronger one because of his killer instinct and you never see him discouraged while Wlad seems to doubt himself sometimes.

vitali may have been the stronger one, but right now age is a factor i believe. vitali is what now 39? wlad is right in his prime.

he hasnt been outboxed in the past, i believe he will get outboxed if he fights a quick slick boxer next.

Let's see, he is getting older but his brain is intact, so I hope he will not get outboxed until his retirement, I cannot imagine a fighter who could do it, not even Haye.

skillwise in the heavies chagaev and povetkin might have a chance but only a small one.

haye vs vitali in my eyes is a 50/50 fight. i envision haye beating vitali the way he beat valuev.

the biggest threat to anyone at heavyweight tho is IMO solis, with his natural size and frame he would gave anyone a tough tough fight.
