no it's like a said, the dirrell ward fight is for the wba and wbc title.
from the biggest british newspaper, yellow press, but it's true.

they are dumb as ****. why don't let aa and froch fight for the wbc title and then make a big unification between both winners with a lot of hype and the final of the tournament. i bet the winner of ward or dirrell will back out of the final fight to keep their titles...

1st reaction: what a bunch of corrupt idiots!

But on the 2nd thought: this might be the direct 'instruction' by Showtime and it is very beneficial for the tournament. Ward and Dirrell hesitate to fight because they are mates, but with two world titles on the line, it's pretty good motivation to make it happen. And there's no way in hell they're gonna go through with each other and then pull out from the final risking huge courtroom battles, so this might be the best way to make them stay. The titles will be on the line in the final anyway as the Froch-Abraham winner will be WBC's (and most likely WBA's) mandatory. Seemingly idiotic way, but it might just come out as the smartest.

Yeah, that's what they were going to do according to rumor, and when I heard that rumor, I think I implied it was too logical to actually come to fruition. ...I didn't want to actually be right though.:|

I don't blame them, two fighters coming off of wins or two fighters coming off of losses fighting for your title?

Now that makes sense, good point.

    WBC made the right decision.

It's not without sense but it takes something out of the tourny, imo.

this was my thought too, before even knowing they did have plans to retain the belt in the tournament...

The two belts are a selling point and somewhat validates the tournament.
Some reasons why Kessler's belt might have not been awarded to the Froch/AA fight...(doesnt mean they're good reasons)
    1) Froch had lost it to Kessler
    2) AA had lost to Dirrell
    3) a Title Unification early on might pull in attention this tournament needs from the boxing community, and may pull in casual viewers to make this as a public setting stage for the rest of the tournament
    4) Oddly enuf, the 2 americans may be significantly favored to win the tournament. Hook one up with the 2 belts and garnish HEAVY following and viewing for the rest of the tourney - mo money for promoters
    5) A very good chance that Ward will win the tourney, so hook him up early

To tell you the truth, im for the belt going to AA/Froch, then a Unification bout as the Finale

have these two even agreed to the details of their fight yet or are they still haggling over the location and whining about how they're too close as friends to possibly square off?

Absolutely, that'd be the ideal, logical, sane and deserved way, but these pullout rumors changed the whole script. We should thank Son of Grond and Dirrell for that.
