People keep on about Paulie saying that Casey is a step back..... Read the Star today or the article about Carl Frampton on BoxRec, Paulie says it would be a step back as Willie has nothing he has in regards to a title, and a fight between them would be pointless at this stage, its the same situation as Pajo vs Martin Lindsay, Why put 2 Irish fighters against each other at this stage, with very little rewards, when they are all on the verge of European Titles And at the end of the day Paulie is only fighting who is put in front of him, Think he is a tough durable fighter seen this is Paulies first fight in 6 months
I think the way people look at it is, if Paulie was to fight Willie and win he would be gauranteed a fight with Kiko for sure. So there is a little bit to gain! Instead of saying casey is a step back say i would fight him if it was an eliminator or for the European belt?
Thats all well and good but the EBU dont do eliminators, so that kinda puts that out of the equation, For the European title that would be good, but its pointless putting 2 of our 3 Super-Bantamweights against each other for nothing. For any of the 3 to face each other, they should get a good pay-day with a title on the line too....
That fight could headline a pro box live. The Irish title is on the line. It would sell out Limerick and Peters would definitely be able to get the winner a shot. There's a pay day and a shot at the EBU for a winner. This just smacks of Paulie not willing to risk losing and another reason Casey deserves the winner the Kiko fight. Hyland is fighting a guy who has won 3 of his last 28 fights in his 18th fight. Says it all about his ambition. It's not exactly a keep busy fight either. It's been about six months since his last fight.
Ok, lets try straighten this out a little bit, You are saying have Paulie Hyland vs Willie Casey for the Irish Title, and the winner fight the winner of the Kiko fight????? The only problem with that is, to fight for the EBU title, you will have to vacate the Irish title. So that fight would be just pointless. And nothing is concrete yet about Hyland or Casey fighting the winner of the Kiko fight, Simone Maldutrottu is the mandatory challenger, andthe EBU have to approve an opponent for any voluntary defence. We may be all jumping the gun here a bit anyway, Lets say Kiko wins, whats stopping the Hattons coming in with a purse bid to get Scott Quigg a shot, or if Jason Booth loses on Saturday, whats stopping Maloney getting him a shot,
Cheers mate, these are from Monday's presser! Instead of using flash I jacked up the ISO which is why they're a bit grainy :good
regardin willie casey lads id say he could still be ranked by the ebu soon enough for a euro title fight by november
sorry man didnt realise joyce was back in belfast sparring.... it says in todays irish news that 80% of the tickets are sold and there expecting a full house... should be a good night... some are saying that joyce is considering a move to the pros... any truth in it:think
