1. Lennox Lewis. One of teh greatest HWs of all time. Lewis under Steward who is IMO the greatest trainer of all time, was a a great boxer who used a saftey first style but still mangaed to KO people. The untrained Lewis who was fat and there for the money still beat a prime Vitali who has been one of the dominant HWs , great fighterand great legacy. Evryone below this is in no order. Roy Jones Jr He done vrything wrong. Pulled back from punches and kept hsi hands low , but he had the IQ and the athletacism to get away with it. He was a monster at 168 and 175 . He hit hard and moved fast. The way he taunts his opponents is amazing. Ray Leonard The perfect ambassador for boxing. Charasmatic , still in great health and a great legacy. The length of his resume is over looked becaus eof its gurth. The depth is amazing ,he fought the best fighters of his time and he beat them all. The way he came back and out smarted and out moved Duran. Switch to the fighter against Herans , stealing the ends of rounds and out boxing Hagler , the man is genious. Floyd Mayweather The art of boxing is to hit and not get hit. This man has truely accomplished that measure. His understanding of his job as a prizefighter is amazing , he has masterd the art and the business. Untill this man i would have had SweetP in here but he is demoted to the bottom half of my top 10 becaus ei truely belive Mayweather has teh superior defence. Tommy Hearns A beats. Head 2 Head monster. Built to fight tall , taught to destroy. Fast hands , long reach make great power. His leverage would destroy opponents he is on great fighter. The next 5 would be Ali , SweetP, Monzon, Hagler, SRR. These can often change subject to my mood that month ad who i am am watching most.
Really hard to narrow it down to 5 but here goes; Tito Trinidad A real warrior. Charismatic, hard-hitting and just relentless. His walk to the ring, the way he loved the fans as much as they loved him, his style of always coming forward and never clinching, his murderous power, the way he jumped on the ropes after scoring a knockdown ... I loved it all. Erik Morales Probably doesn't need much explaining. He could have won most of his fights just by staying behind his jab but, instead, he went to war every time he stepped in the ring. He took on the best consistently and left it all in the ring for our entertainment. A legend. Roy Jones Jnr I've liked boxing for as long as I can remember but RJJ was responsible for me following it obsessively. I'd never seen anyone like him before and I haven't since. The lightning-fast punches, combinations and reflexes were just incredible. Even when he was beating guys in comprehensive fashion, there was always a chance he would do something you'd never seen before. For a long time, he looked untouchable. Ricardo Lopez Pure, textbook, boxing perfection. Every punch was thrown with flawless technique and I could watch him fight all day. His jab, straight right, left uppercut combination is one of my favourites. Arturo Gatti Simply the most exciting fighter I've ever seen.
Salvador Sanchez - Enigmatic, brilliant, stoic. A true professional that approached the game with the seriousness it deserved. Bobby Chacon - In man ways the polar opposite of Sanchez in his approach, but as has been mentioned, never in a bad fight. Self-destructive, but an interesting back story as well. Alexis Arguello - Calm, cool, precise, and devastating. One of the best finishers ever. If he hurt you, you were done. A true gentleman too. Chacon, Mancini, and Pryor comment often on what a great guy he was. Marvin Hagler - My first boxing hero. You just look at the guy and know he's a fighter. He just embodied it. I loved his single-minded approach, down to locking himself away in an old inn in Providence in the winter so he could train without distraction. His handlers say when he wasn't training, he would just sit and stare out his room's window at the ocean and birds for hours on end, doing absolutely nothing. Matthew Saad Muhammad - Like Chacon, never in a bad fight. Heartbreaking backstory too; when he was perhaps three, his mother told his older brother to "lose" him. His brother took him out into the streets of Philadelphia far enough away from home so the toddler wouldn't know where he was, then took off running. The police found the crying three-year old standing there. He was found on Franklin Street, and so took the surname "Franklin." Matthew Franklin. He grew up in foster care from that point on. He became a gang leader and got into trouble, then found boxing and turned his life around. Now that kid no one wanted is a legend.
Marco Antonio Barrera - After watching Barrera/McKinney and Barrera/Morales 1 as a kid, this was what made me take the next step to go to a Boxing Gym and learn how to box. His combination punching was something to behold, as was his ability to bounce back from defeats, there's not one other fighter (aside from SSM) and be on the edge of my seat throughout the entire fight. Oscar de la Hoya - Perhaps one of the most complete boxers I've ever seen. The man was my idol as I grew up. Everyone watched Oscar fight. He was quite simply the crown prince of boxing. Sugar Shane Mosley - The guy had cannons in his gloves. Every time I watched Shane land a shot, especially a 5 or 6 punch combination I would gasp. The guy was a physical beast. Roy Jones Jr. - Similar situation to Shane Mosley with his speed and power. The guy was an entertainer and was consider the best fighter around as I grew up. Roberto Duran - Only with the advent of YT have I been able to see some of Roberto Duran's finer fights like his struggle with Palamino. I first watched him on VHS against Sugar Ray Leonard and Ken Buchanan. He was my Dad's favourite fighter and my "P4P" best of all time. Notable mentions: Eric Morales, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Pernell Whitaker, Manny Pacquiao, Michael Carbajal, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, Thomas Hearns, Julio Cesar Chavez.
1. Sugar Ray Leonard Being from the same hometown, he was like a "GOD" when I was growing up.......Just the TOTAL package, speed, power, and killer instinct in bunches...Ray also fought kinda like a Mexican the way he attacked the body with the left hook to the body. 2. Felix Trinidad Fought only one way, but he epitomized everything good about the sport. Come forward style, had his nation on his back....Very similar to Manny, in that he's not the only one that took on great challenges, he wasn't necessarily the smartest matchmaker and kept picking more than he can chew (Tito/Hopkins and Pac maybe Margocheato) 3. Evander Holyfield 4. Erik Morales 5. Alexis Arguello/Joe Louis
1.Roberto Duran (rampant rampaging ATG beast) 2.Manny Pacquiao (weight-jumping miracle, thrilling warrior) 3.James Toney (sublime skills, great character) 4.Pernell Whitaker (the most skilled, rounded, versatile fighter ever imo) I don't have a definite fourth, just many other fighters I love including Mike McCallum, Winky Wright, Roy Jones Jr, Azumah Nelson, Bernard Hopkins, Rafael Marquez, Myung Woo-Yuh, Alexis Arguello, Marvin Hagler, etc etc etc...
1. Manny Pacquiao - Midget with balls of steel. 2. Roy Jones Jr. - Great athlete. Handled his opposition with ease. 3. Mike Tyson - Left Hook, roll under. Same move every time. 4. Sugar Ray Leonard - A great mix of athleticism, boxing ability and power. 5. Muhammad Ali - G.O.A.T.
PBF- masterful student of the sport (in the ring only) Bad Chad- I'm from New Haven, CT so he's my hometown guy King Arthur- True warrior mentality, the 1st bout w/ miranda was INSANE Barrera- a class act, text book perfect boxer, great combos Iron Mike- got me into boxing, have countless memories of PPV parties when he'd fight and he never disappointed
1.- Roberto Duran 2.- Marcos A. Barrera 3.- Mantequilla Napoles 4.- Alexis Arguellos/Mike Tyson 5.- Marvin Hagler I don't think is much to say about those six.
pac, jermain taylor, shane mosely, andre ward, nonito donaire warrior mentality, highly skillied, and class acts. fighters who represent the sport in a positive way and you would not mind letting kids seeing them and looking up to them.
Felix mutha****in' Trinidad Marvin Hagler Ricardo Mayorga Diego Corrales Marco Antonio Barrera Cause none these guys wanna dance around the ring for 12 rounds trading jabs, someone's goin' to sleep...
1. Mike Tyson - Underrated speed & agility, student of the sport, brought boxing a lot of attention. 2. Muhammad Ali - The guy was the total package of a fighter. Great face of the sport. 3. Klitschko Brothers - Great fighters, unmatched dedication, dominant yet not obnoxious. Great sportsmen. 4. Juan Manuel Marquez - A warrior who brings it, every time. Great fighter and face of the sport. 5. Ricky Hatton - Always exciting, balls out fighter. Fans are off the hook, and he seems like the kind of guy you wouldn't mind drinking with. Runners Up: B-Hop - Ring General Extraordinaire, Defensive Master Roy Jones Jr. - Loudmouth Extraordinaire, Offensive Master Oscar Dela Hoya - Accomplished inside and outside the ring. Retired with a working brain, always good to see. Pac Man - The guy has accomplished so much... Joe Louis - IMO, the most prolific and successful fighter in the ring, sad life outside the ring though.
1) Prince Naz- he dominated in such an exciting fashion, hard not to be a fan of his. 2) Bruno - Got me into boxing 3) Lewis - cleaned up his division, what more can you ask for. 4) Ali - the guy is a legend and p4p IMO the best that ever lived. 5) Eubank - part of the trio of Naz, Eubank and Bruno who cemented my love for english boxing. seeing these 3 represent my country in such a tough sport was enough to win any young kid over.
glad to see hatton and calzaghe didn't make your list. hatton seems like a nice enough guy that i'd like to drink with but he just has a awful style. and calzaghe's slapping just doesn't do anything for me either. i'm liking khan more every time i see him. lewis is one of those fighters that is more respected now then when he was fighting. always loved him and thought he had quite confidence and painfully shy rather than being a arrogant dick with no personality.
1. Golota - big emotions and hopes related to him, my countryman 2. Adamek - warrior and heart, my countyman 3. Dempsey - pure power and speed, destroyer 4. Tyson - see above 5. Ali - amazing skill and talent, charisma Its the first 5 that comes to my mind.
