I didn't vote because I know nothing about Ernesto Marcel.

 I just watched Zarate struggle with a 'fella named Batista, who would go on to lose 7 of his next 8 fights. Carlos, the plumber. A master.

Batista looks good in that fight, and was undefeated.

Zarate effectively 'ruined' him IMO, good fight though.

Sorry GP, missed this one. (Why doesn't ESB add a "Who Quoted Me" alert system?! :fire)

I know we've had this discussion before, but I don't think Arguello was the full package even when he beat Olivares.

You need to see some Marcel.

That is a good fight. Zarate is particular slow to adapt but when he does it is instant retribution.

My fault. If some of the detractors voiced there opinion it could have been a very good thread, but no.

He actually impresses me in the Marcel fight, I think he became more confident after it, and slightly more polished skill-set wise. But he applied pressure well and was a good counter-puncher even at this stage.

Have you seen the records of the fighters Batista was fighting leading up to the Zarate fight? Despicable. No free pass on this occasion.

Actually looking with your eyes at his skillset and ability, he looks much better than his record, and puts up a very good fight IMO. Is this the double uppercut KO?

But the fact remains that he would lose an outrageous amount of fights and achieve absolutely nothing at world level after fighting Zarate, and was fighting records in the region of 0-1-0 or 18-12-5 prior. He looks half decent on film, but perhaps he excelled in the biggest fight of his career by being competitive. I know it isn't a noteworthy victory, anyhow.

The stoppage comes after a left hook. He beats the count but the referee waves it off.

Thats the Amores KO I'm thinking off then.

I remember Batista doing very well at getting under Zarate's shots.
