are current boxers of today better than boxers of yesteryear?

Can't agree at all think one only has to look at the condition of most heavyweights today to suggest that the advances in nutrition and sports science perhaps have not impacted on boxing that greatly. However for me the simple fact is that boxing was a more popular sport in the 20s to 50s stands to reason with greater participation the standard would increase.

Personally I watch a lot of fighters from this era and see no reason why the likes of Ross, Leonard and Robinson would not only compete but would come out on top against a lot of the modern guys, they do things in terms of inside fighting, upper body movement and slipping punches we rarely if ever see today. Would also argue that the idea that all sports have improved in the modern era does not really stack up. I'm from England so apologies to those from stateside but in cricket the best batsman ever by a country mile is the Australian Don Bradman who was plying his trade in the 30's, his batting average is 99.94, to give that context for those unfamiliar with cricket his nearest rival has an average in the 60's, a margin of absolutely biblical proportions.

You mean Joe Louis or Karate champion Joe Lewis? ...You're clearly an expert on the karate champion, on account of spelling his name correctly, but this thread is about boxing. And the poster you're agreeing with is being silly.

    Great karate champion

...probably would be quite competitive against the current karate champions also.

:lol: What the **** is SNV throwing a left hook for? On the original photo, the opponent is nowhere near him either.

That's an SNV patented move right there. What he does is when the bell rings, before the other fighter gets close, he plays with their instincts a little bit and throws a feinting uppercut to see if they flinch. Then when they get a little closer comes the feinting half left hook to the shoulder, while nowhere in range. IF-and I repeat IFFF the opponent moves to one side to get out of the way, for fear that SNV's reach is even greater than he'd originally thought, then SNV knows which way to feint the third time to set up his McCallum-like body shot. ...I may not have explained it well, because his game is so complex, but the point is, he's a ****ing genius...Dude would MURDER Adamek.

:rofl:rofl Constantly hilarity plagues you, B. I love it.

I read Valuev's latest interview. He looks like an idiot but the dude is one of the smartest fighters out there. Seems like a really cool guy.

one of the most often asked questions, and anyone who says 'yes' for today's fighters has no concept of boxing and doesn't understand footage of fights from the 50's.

    end discussion.

He's so cool, he just did a pilot not long ago for a possible Russian TV remake of Shaft. No bull****...Hey, together we've really done this thread a service today, I think. Definitely bumped it up a notch. It couldn't be much better even if Adamek pranked it...or could it?

Joke? Check wikileaks. Zarate would be playing Niko/Shaft's plumber if the TV station picks it up.

:rofl I think Itrymariti took offense to my offense to my photoshop. He's a big Zarate fan and it might have seemed I was insinuating that Z was fighting plumbers his whole career. Misunderstanding. I tell you.

The fighters from the past ... if they lived in this era they would adapt and mold themselves after this era characteristics

 I saw his ":|:|:|" comment. I regret making that my avatar a little bit. I didn't mean anything by the Zarate comment either. It was Korean Hawk that started it with the 'Marcel is now a vet' thing. ...I was getting pretty spacey by the time I logged off earlier.
