he did do, but did he really earn his shot? i dont think so. its just my opinion, i dont like it when boxers bypass domestic level opponents. burns aint done oo bad in fighting burns, arthur, earl and johanesson. but he went 2-2 with them, so hasnt proven to be any better. cook would be a worthy defence anyways, since he is an ex title holder himself. i belivev stephen fox jr(have i got the name right? im on about the guy who floored alex arthur in his title defence) has a europena title shot coming up, so again he would be a worthy defence if he won that belt. if mitchell came down he would be a worthy defence. i suppose gary sykes wouldnt be classed as a decent win on the world scene. so the guys im mentioning, two have already had world title fights and another could soon be the european champ. gary sykes might have more to prove but id still see it as a decent defence.
If they can get Mitchell to go back down to Super Feather than Burns - Mitchell would be a good fight, I think he's too big for the division now though. Either way fair play to Ricky Burns, I didn't think he was world class (he may still not be) but he fought the fight of his life and made Martinez look like a limited slugger.
exactly, he performed brilliantly that night, i would love to see if he can do it regularly. he is what now 27, and he has been in a few wars already. he shoould be around for another 4 years or so.
i've seen burns since he was 11. he always had something about him and the ability to reach the highest level. against arthur and johanson he didn't seem to have the maturity but after saturday that now looks sorted. he'll beat any super feather in britain and if kevin mitchell fancies it i'm sure burns will expose him just like katsidis
i agree he always had shown glimpses, that is why he has had some big fights at domestic level. against johanneson he tried to show how brave he was, and it failed badly. against arthur he was outmatched at that time. you say his previous 2 didnt ya, to o'hara and that guy who lost 20 and won 5 or somethin, it didnt look sorted then. id like to see him again soon vs maybe mitchell or cook, and is he can prove he is a class above, then ye bring on the big boys. you must admit tho, there is a question mark about which ricky burns will turn up come fight night. but i agree, if the burns that beat martinez turns up, then ye he should have no problem beating most of the super feathers out there.
