This thread is on the gf forum and is full off the usual Hearns by brutal ko! I think Hearns would outbox Calzaghe to a competive decision but would like to hear oppinions from people who aren't complete morons or Booradley. Cheers!
Calzahge left a lot of question marks in my mind. I dont know how good he really was. He had quick hands, and I think he had a good tough mindset towards boxing, but his technique was a bit poor, and he really never truly tested his skills against a prime elite fighter. Super middle would put Hearns up there in age, so Calzahge's speed could give him some trouble. It would be a good fight I think, but I'd probably lean towards Hearns too, just because of the unknowns with Joe. I think he would have a tough time keeping Hearns off of him, if he slapped his punches.
i'm a moron but i'll give it my best shot. hearns reached (for me) his true peak at 154...physically and mentally. i'll admit, i've seen very little footage of him at 168 but what was evident is that his power did not carry past 160. his jab, timing and generalship however did. he was also possibly more durable as he moved up. the fighter calzaghe most visibly struggled with was robin reid, who fought NOTHING like hearns. next to that was likely hopkins, again quite a different fighter. the same issue goes the other way, with calzaghe possessing none of the skills of a prime hagler or leonard and being vastly different in style to barkely. still, barkley is an issue for me, especially the 175 win. i see an incredibly tight fought contest, with calzaghe winning in close with flurries and hearns dominating at distance with that all time great jab. calzaghe could not adapt nearly as well as his followers describe. he would close the distance...but not enough. he possesses the mobility to trouble hearns but tommy would land that jab over and over and the right would follow behind it. i see a 7-5 win for hearns with a knockdown for good measure
Lefthook31 and Jordoz have said it all already. Hearns decision. Even well above his best weight and years after his peak, he still has way too much for a fighter as flawed as Calzaghe.
Hearns to a UD or maybe a KO , a late KO would be possible. I think rounds would be competative but i say slappy Joe going down a few times and this would rack up points for Hearns who would probably be piping round anyway. Callzaggy:nut is not in Tommys class.
Its Hearns by either clear decision or stoppage, Jabs too good, long reach, possibily the hardest straight right in history and just a better fighter, So I'm going for a late stoppage, But if Hearns hurts Calzaghe early like (Hopkins and Jones) then I believe he would stop him he's one of the greatest finishers of all time, it would be competive to a degree but I believe Hearns controls the fight fairly easy. Hearns By Stoppage Rd 9 I believe Hearns beats Calzaghe at light-heavy also
Ok little fella, it's time for the AOL chat for you. Let's let the grown-ups talk boxing and you go play with your action men, ok?
Geez man, you nostalgia waxers know dick about boxing, or you're just ignorant. Calz spped alone at '68 would kill hearns. Tommy was a beast at 47 and 54, but 68 was just his old weight. Calz was a natural and big supermiddle. Calz would eat hearns alive on the inside and outwork him. plus, hearns long jab would sail over the elusive welshman. Hearns had a draw with another blown-up welter who was way past it, but he KO's the greatest suprmiddle of all time? mmmmk. Well, we should just go ahead and bump this whole thread now before ESB completely becomes an irrelevant boxing forum.
this sentence alone is somewhat ridiculous. calzaghe could be described as many things "elusive" is not one of them. he has one of the worst defenses for a HOF, elite fighter i've ever seen
Hearns was brillant at light-heavy with wins over Andries who he dominated and knocked down 6 times before knocking him out and Virgil Hill who was in his prime and is likely to end up in the hall of fame, by decision, So its not nostalgia its actually what that outcome probably would of been, so don't be so disrespectful of people opinions when their perfectly reasonable :hi:
I expected the thread to go this way and think its quite ridiculous how underrated Calzaghe is. Calzaghe is too physical for Hearns at this weight. He's very fast, mobile, bags of stamina and is relentless and several classes up from Iran Barkley. Hearns is ground down and stopped in this one, late.
Callzaggy:nut looks abit like an action amn dont you think? This content is protected This content is protected
i'm not a calzaghe fan at all but i can see this as being a close fight. i'm leaning towards hearns by dec but i can see calzaghe out hustling him as well. how's that for a chicken sh!t pick
