The Calzombies got beat up in the general forum, so one of them brought the thread to classic. Tommy Hearns is at least two levels above Calzaghe, and it does not matter what forum you put a thread in!

and then he goes on to attack the classic forum as a whole because we brought reasonable and objective arguments to refute him and he didn't like that :!:

Very hard to call, I would say Hearns by decision if he boxed from distance as he likely would... Joe doesnt have the one punch power to get Hearns in enough trouble & Hearns jab, straight right hand & all round boxing technique sees him pulling out a close decision.

Nobody outboxes Hearns from distance over the whole 12 IMO.

This wouldnt suprise me at all as I rate Calzaghe as a fighter, the best of British post war, a great fighter but Calzaghe has never fought anyone as good a boxer as Hearns, Tommy has fought a few as good or better than Calzaghe... it would be fascinating as hell to watch them go at it.

I rate him myself, but this is a bad style match up for him, like you said theirs few that can outbox Hearns,

also about Calzaghe being the best post war, But what about Turpin, Lewis, Buchanan, Conteh, Winstone ?

conteh, when he was on, was probably the best. he just wasn't consistent enough

with a gun to my head i'd rate buchanan as the best

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

Poor Tommy with that erratic uncontrolled jab - he would just miss and miss against Joe The Elusive One Calzaghe.

    I suppose

works as a description if you're simply a bad athlete - in which case, you might describe Joe as also having exemplary punching technique too ...

But, considering he still managed to walk into the same punch repeatedly and even get dropped by 40 year olds ... I doubt elusive is a good description ... maybe Eubank has a better one ...

"Listen, Calzaghe is easy to hit with right hands. He's busy enough, fast handed southpaw but he's a bit European, quite square and rigid, you know? He's far from unhittable, in fact he's easy to hit with the right (hand). Just a basic, straight right hand lead he doesn't seem to see, but of course, you have to have abit of speed ...

"I also found him (Calzaghe) fairly easy to hit with body shots ... ," added the lisping former champ.

Damn that poor jab, lack of speed, and uncontrolled power ... Tommy would never touch the

    one ... :rofl

Only top guys like Kabary Hands Of Stone Salem could pull that off .... well, actually David Sugar Starie landed a considerable number of punches in their close toe to toe war .. so him too ...

Oh without a doubt I agree with you there, but in regards to his ability (at his best) and Hd 2 Hd I believe he should be rated higher as a better fighter than Calzaghe.

I think Randy Turpin would of whupped both Benn ( who I'm a massive fan of and a great fighter) and Calzaghe, he'd be my number 1 when it comes to Hd 2 Hd and ability and I'd add Winstone. to the list.

My list would be something like this:

    1. Randy Turpin
    2. Lennox Lewis
    3. Ken Buchanan
    4. John Conteh
    5. Howard Winstone

but I would'nt have much problem with your top 3 :good

That's a good list, though I will always prefer Eubank to Benn as a fighter.

hmmm, tough one. i LOVE watching benn and his power was brilliant but i honestly think calzaghe has a decent shot of outhustling him.

if calzaghe walks in as he usually does, he`d get nailed with right hands early on, possibly floored, and fight off the back foot for the rest of the fight, forcing benn to chase him. however, i think calzaghe`s movement could cause serious problem`s for benn and in the end, cal`s chin would likely hold up under the pressure. tough call but i could see calzaghe by MD
