Excellent post Rock:good Especially the one on Romeros Eye injury he broke his orbital bone and there was talk of the injury being career ending. Addie mentioned Romero being ahead on the scorecards is a clear indication of Addie reading Boxing records account and not watching the fight. Salazar was kicking Dannys ass and i was surprised when they had him behind on the cards. Addie kod assasin in his last 2 post. But gets kod by Whatta Rock War ko 1 Addie
Excellent post and unlike Tapia(outside of the Marcos fight) Calzaghe would be knocked out if he moved up that high and fought on that long:yep Bunch of newbs on this thread who think comparing the 2 is ridiculous. Its obvious they didnt start watching Tapia until the end(if ever).
The Calzaghe supreme "adapting" was a myth, spewed by commentators and then repeated by idiots on forums. He adapted a bit, but it was more his stamina that overwhelmed opponents in mid-late rounds. He didn't adapt a damn to Hops right hand, he just outworked him with slaps.
Completely false. I don't recall Calzaghe beating any of his top tier opposition on the back foot? :huh [/quote] Joe could have done it. He just needed more chances. He only fought against top opposition three times in his career.
Go pop in a DVD of a real fight and stop making trouble. I havent seen the fight and would have gone off what boxrec said aswell...I either read an article or was told by someone regarding the other stuff.
No i suggest you and Addie go pop in a dvd of the Romero-Salazar fight and after that come back and tell Big Anarci i was wrong and you were right:bowdown
I remember the genius when Calzaghe adapted to BHOP's highly gay low-blow reaction by outmatching the gayness with a super gay dry humping. It was like a clinic on gay adaptation. He owned BHOP like he was in prison again. Owned him with his incredible powers of adaptability. "I thought he would react to my bending over and crying one way...but he adapted and reacted another way. Calzaghe has a wonderful boxing mind." ~BHOP after the fight to Max Kellerman. ...Followed by "This is my crouch(sic) Max. I won't make you feel it. I've had enough "adapting" for one night."
Tapia was slightly better imo, Calzaghe's resume is a bit better. ATG ranking very close but neither in top 100.
oK FAIR ENOUGH. But your statement was misleading in your assesment of Romero. Just cause Yuh beat Salazar convincingly and Salazar whups Romero(in a fight you admitidly didnt see),is no indication of Romeros abilities. If you had seen some of Romero fights in his prime and watched the Salazar fight you could see that wasnt the real Danny in there, and that Salazar was also a better fighter than you are giving him credit for.
I like Tapia much more, both as a person and as an in-ring talent, but Calzaghe did put together a better legacy.
Actually there title fight resumes are somewhat similar Joe Calzaghe 24-0 Johnny Tapia 24-3 Just cause Tapia lost 3x title fights doesnt tell you the whole story His first loss with Ayala could have gone either way, and he was robbed in the 2nd fight. His fight with Barrera was his 4th division he had moved up(joe had never moved up that high) and he was clearly passed his prime against an atg in his prime. In a H2h matchup Calzaghe would have never heard the last bell ring going up against say a Cruiser version of Barrera who was in his prime, and a passed it Calzaghe for sure would have been dead meat . And i think pfp Ayala was better than any of Joes competition (save maybe Old Hopkins). That being said their resumes are similar Joe went undefeated, Johnny won more belts. To me what puts Tapia over Calzaghe is he was just the better fighter and in a hth matchup would win this.
Nothing would make me more happy than to talk up the quality of Willy Salazar given how my second favorite fighter of all time holds a win over him. I can't do it, though. He looked second rate in his fight with Yuh, and his overall career record would indicate the same thing. Mikkel Kessler hasn't and never will lose to a fighter of that caliber and that's why I brought the fight up in the first place. There was a comparison being made. In light of finding out the circumstances of that loss, it does all seem pretty pointless now and irrelevant. Point taken, Anarci. :good Willy is the tall fella in these clips. The one in red.
