That Zaragoza sure had a ton of tough fights. In the other guys backyard and then he'd sign for a rematch. What a tough guy to discourage and not a guy that will stand the test of time very well. Most folks like the flashy types with handspeed and Danny gave up those advantages, and more, in almost every fight. Actually, it's hard to think of too many guys who give up so much in physical boxing attributes against elite opponents and yet had a lot of wins. Plus, the guy was a major league bleeder.
Caballero was an 5ft 11 inches super bantam weight ffs. I watched Zaragoza vs banke 2 yesterday and he was tough SOB with a nice awkward southpaw style , very tv friendly too.
I'm 5'8 and I'm tiny...but I weigh enough to be a Junior Welterweight. I don't know how those guys managed it.
Not everyone can mate, thats why its very rare in boxing to see these guys do it and fight strong for 12 rounds. Its a great advantage if you have it. I never heard of Daniel Zaragoza until "Jim Lampley" on HBO mentioned him having a similar style too pirog? I couldnt see the resemblance? But checked him out and was glad i did. He had a long career and a lot of world title fights so i will do some more homework on him sometime.
Zaragoza is one of my favorite warriors. This whole trilogy was great. Bloodbaths. Very, very underrated fighter.
Check out Zaragoza V Jeff Fenech from a 1985 non title 10 rounder. Fenech out-everything-ed Zaragoza in about his 13th fight or so. But he was a tough ******* Zaragoza, that's for sure
That's just part of it. What other guy is fighting a hot rising youthful guy like Fenech in a 10 rounder for no title? Who else puts their name on a contract for not a whole lot of money and take a big risk like that?
addie, you inspired me to watch the fight on youtube. one of the greatest fights i have seen. paul banke threw those flurries of spearing punches, reminds me of the more recent michael katsidis.
