Would Froch-Calzaghe have been as close as Reid-Calzaghe was?

Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe was an SD, a very tough and close fight.

If Carl Froch had got his fight with Joe, would it have been as close a fight, or would Calzaghe have beaten Froch with greater ease?

Please explain your opinion on this. :good

With Carl's sloppy defence, Joe would slap him silly all night.
Against prime Calzaghe (pre handproblems) Froch would get knocked out.

If Joe injured his hand like he did in the Reid fight, sure.

Reid was a more complete boxer than Froch. Joe feasts on brawler, chin, power and toughness are not the weapons to trouble Joe. Much easier fight for Joe than either Reid or Kessler.

I think it would be competitive at times...but Calzaghe would come out with a UD. Both awkward styles, but Calzaghe's movement, output, and solid chin would be more than enough to handle Froch.
After the long war of words, it would definitely be a brawl at times...but ultimately, Calzaghe would outclass Froch.

Ive heard a few times Joe hurt his hand vs Reid & most think he still won, assuming the same never happened vs Froch, I think you`d be looking at a 9-3 job in Calzaghe`s favour.

Froch would be outboxed from the outside & outworked on the inside... he would land his big shots now & then as Joe never had Whitaker type defence but he did have a good chin, incredible will & amazing recovery powers so those scary moments would be few & far between.
The speed difference not to mention the gap in boxing ability would be too much for Froch to pull the upset or even make it debateable IMO.

I don't think there is a particularly large gap between them in terms of boxing ability. Froch's performance in the latter half of the Pascal fight was good as anything I ever seen from Joe C, taking opposition into account. However, I tend to think Joe's speed would be the deciding factor. Neither man has a decent defence, so both would land shots, but Froch doesn't have the power to KO Joe, and Calzaghe would land far more than the Cobra would, so I tend to agree, a comfortable UD.

I'd like to hear from some Froch fans who think it would be closer though, I wouldn't rule that out completely and would like to see some explanations.

Calzaghe was twice the boxer Reid was but he didnt fight smart and went to war against a good strong brawler. That should of really been a completely different fight, not that im complainin cuz it was brilliant.

Put Calzaghe of the the last few years in against Froch and hed of made a joke of the Nottingham man, and wouldnt lose a round along the way.

I didnt think Calzaghe - Reid was close at all, I thought Joe clearly won and think the faster more active Calzaghe would outwork Froch for a clear and simple win.
I think you still have trouble (like many others) in accepting that Calzaghe went undefeated and beat Hopkins, and start to look for reasons or say he lost certain fights etc.. He didnt. The Reid fight was scored 5 points lead by each judge and the judge that scored for Reid was a real mystery. The only person in the studio who thought it was close was G McCrory who has often scored strangely in fights. He even gave round 12 to Reid (a clear Calzaghe round), but the 3 studio guests all scored it wide for Calzaghe. Sure he took some clean shots but won the fight clearly

Do we even need to debate this?

Froch is tailor made for JC... he's slow, flat footed and has no defence.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Cokezaghe would Lacy Froch worse than he Lacyed Lacy.

Where have I ever, ever said or even implied that I think Reid beat Calzaghe?? :huh

I have never ever done so anywhere.
