I like & respect Toney, he is right when he says he was the only boxer with the balls to step up.... but like I said before it happened, its a different game & Couture would win easy.
Im a fan of both sports & neither could live with each other in each others field at the elite level.

Only dumbass boxing fans that dislike MMA or dumbass MMA fans that dislike boxing cant see this & try compare these 2 great sports.

    I couldnt finish it :-(

I feel bad for Toney but then i dont.... idk. He should have took his mma training more seriously, and its something he should have prepared a lot longer with. His training team was a complete joke for the most part outside of one or two members, and just everything, he set himself up to fail and took boxing with him.

oh well, its done, its over with..... Toney is still delusional, calling himself the champ, but oh well, he is indeed a legend and if he wants to call himself that after what hes given in boxing then so be it, my problem with that is hes going to fool himself into continuing.

The problem with these boxers like Toney and Roy, is that they feel if they stop boxing, that they somehow 'quit'. So they get this defensive attitude about how they wont quit and their pride keeps them getting beat up.

Toney should just retire, open up a resteraunt or a gym or something. I dont want to see him get beat up anymore. However, if he is going to continue, better it be mma and not boxing..... being choked out in a few minutes is a lot less damaging then getting his head beat in round after round.

Retire James, youve been a masterful fighter.... youve got nothing left to prove.

Im in the Marines, and people will submission grapple all the time.... its much easier on your body and its hard to do an effective job on a gun line if your trying to work with a concussion.

Unless you dont have an important job, or are on some massive downtime or libo, straight up boxing eachother would be a dumb move in most cases. Its easier to just get out some aggression through grappling and tapping someone out.

Not saying that nobody boxes, but the majority of the time its grappling. Also the USMC has the MCMAP program (basically, marine mma) so its pretty much impossible to avoid at this point.

What was your branch and MOS Hendo?

Boxing would be awsome but i still think that unless your going to be on libo for a few days its smarter to just do some submission grappling. Less damaging. I know if i was a NCO i wouldnt want my Marines bashing eachothers brains in while we are in the field. I suppose if we were back at the HTC it would be fine.

Thats cool though.... i think most branches still have boxing teams too if im not mistaken. im pretty sure the marines do.

I dont get this statement though....

How is he the only boxer with the balls? because hes the only one desperate enough to do it?

Toney was in the position to go to the UFC because point blank, he was no longer relivent in his sport. He wasnt about to get a fight with anyone with a pulse anytime soon, and hes getting to the point (based on his last fight) where he would probably start losing to low level contenders.

Why would other relivent boxers take a paycut, stop the momentum their trying to achieve in boxing, and go to a sport that has nothing to do with them?

That has nothing to do with 'balls'.

Also, james is not the only boxer to do so..

Ricardo Mayorga tried to do it and was like a week or day away from fighting Din Thomas before King stopped the fight

    Ray Mercer obviously

But for the most part, boxers wont go into MMA until they have run their course in their own sport.... its only logical and its not because they lack 'balls'.

I don't want give out too much personal information, but I was deployed to a middle eastern air base that is now closed, and I believe during the war we worked 12 hour shifts everyday, but after things toned down, we went to I think 3 on 1 off, and anyway people got an opportunity to box.

This was before anybody really knew anything about grappling, so people just boxed. Anyway, some people did get knocked out, but they didn't tell us to stop until someone finally got their jaw broke. Then it was banned.

kirk, I just had a similar debate with another poster about this subject. Some boxing fans have actually accused Dana White of deliberately selecting an out-of-shape, MMA inexperienced and irrelevant James Toney to fight in the UFC for the sole purpose of validating MMA and making boxing look bad. I've made the point that it's not Dana's fault if a more suitable/relevant/conditioned fighter never made an offer. I'm not saying that it has to do with a lack of balls either. Simply that it's not Dana's problem.

I think Toney's decision to fight in the UFC was based in part due to his ignorance of what it means to be an MMA fighter was well as feeding his mammoth-sized ego.

    :rofl:rofl

So the real story is a punch of unskilled gas jockeys threw a few windmills and then stopped when their NCO told them they were a bunch of stupid prats. I can see now why you consider yourself so much more manly than wrassslers.

Hendo has taking up an other alias for a while.

It is not difficult to tell a guy who is in the closet.

The guy must have a sad life, with all that pent up sexual frustration.

Just pay a dude to suck you off and be done.
