Lets settle it: What would have happened in Vitali vs Lennox...

It wasn't going to go on for more than 1 or 2 more rounds.

That eye was bad.

 

The better conditiioned fighter wins these seesaw battles.

Without a cuts stoppage, Vitali KO's Lennox Lewis.....of course Lennox would have chosen to continue his career and not have it end by a KO......
Vitali having now tasted the big stage against a name like Lewis, then would have KTFO Lewis much easier and sooner in a rematch.

Either way you cut it, as it exist now or not, Vitali retired Lennox Lewis.

Personally I think if Lennox did get beat that night, he would have trained his ass off one more time, came back in shape and better prepared for Vitali's size and style, and kept his rematch record intact with a decision win.

Lewis would have stopped him within two rounds.

 

As others have said, the gash was caused by a right hand, and the damage was so bad that the fight was never going to go on much longer than it did. I didn't see enough in the last round to convince me that either fighter was going to knock the other out, so I tend to think we see a few more rounds of wild swings and furious action, and then the doctor finally succumbs to the inevitable and renders Vitali unfit to continue. Great fight.

 

atschatsch Lewis retired on top after stopping the guy who would go on the become the next great heavyweight.

Vitali was really slowing down and holding on at the time of the stoppage, and Lewis was getting to him. Even if the cut wasn't as bad as it was, Vitali would have been stopped in the next 2 rounds.

 

Vitali would have been stopped. The cut was so horrendous that at best the fight would have gone two more rounds, and Lennox was coming on anyway.

 

Vitali would have been stopped cause the cut was so bad and i thought Vitali look dead tired. Yea Lewis was tired as well but his punches was better then Vitali going in the stoppage.
