Lewis spent most of his time of that fight in ***** street.
GOd knows how many times he was "floored".
He didnt know where he was going or what he was doing.
    Vitali retired him.
    FACT

This is BS. Vitali started strongly but Lewis weathered the storm and was starting to outclass him. I have no doubt that Lewis was softening him up for a late KO. Lewis was uninterested in the fight and under-trained and he was still in a different class to Vitali.

My contention has always been that the fight was a seesaw battle......the one thing to take note in this fight was that through the fighters taking turns landing shots at eachother, Vitali was having prolonged sucess while Lewis was only having short bursts of success when it came to his turn to land......

You all can relook at that fight and see that when Lewis got through throwing his, he'd be gassed and it would take him a good ammount of time to gear himself to attempt another offensive output of any significance

Getting a wind was something that was'nt coming easy throughout the fight for Lennox Lewis, this was not the case with Vitali as he was summoning up his wind after exherting energy on a consistent basis.
The prolonged success by Vitali is the reason why he was up on every card at the time of the cut stoppage.

......because of this it is my belief that the better conditioned fighter was going to win that night barring a cut stoppage, which of course was the case that night.

Initially Lennox Lewis said there would be a rematch.
Lewis however must have come to his senses when he replayed the fight in his mind and on video tape.

My opinion of course, but there is little doubt in my mind that had the fight continued, Vitali would have stopped Lewis that night and on any night there after.

One of the very few reasonable answers when it comes to this matchup.

You can't fight if you can't see. Vitali failed to protect himself from an ATG fighter and so his face got brutalised. He looked good early but he had already started fading and lost the last 2 rounds.

Vitali only had one eye left and it would only have got worse. With 6 rounds left and a now steady legged Lennox I don't see how Vitali was ever gonna win. The fight had to be stopped or he could have got seriously hurt.

As I said in another thread, it is sad that this loss remains the high point of Vitali's career. I think that's why his fans continue to bring it up. I love Vitali and wish he'd had some better competition, but it is what it is.

There's no doubt Vitaly would have gottem KO'd in the 7th round.

    Look it up.

And if you're going to go on about bull****, Lewis wasn't KTFO twice. He was TKO'd (on his feet) against McCall. Have you even watched it?

Vitaly was KO'd. End of story.
If TKO"s don't count, then I guess we need to revisit Vitalys KO percentage then?

Lewis was winded... Vitali was going blind.... It was a great fight with both guys giving and taking...

But if you say the fight continues, it would have to be without the cut... It was only gonna get bigger...

So Lewis won the fight, but Vitali won the war.. Lewis retired for a reason... But that was his night..

Did you see Vitali's cut? Within a couple more rounds of punishment that eye would have been so bad he would have been literally blind from it. Lewis was stopping Vitali thats a fact.

Not because Lennox was so powerful or coz he was dominating. But simply coz if he kept connecting with that eye, it would dam near have fallen out! There were 6 rounds to go. Do you really think that eye would have lasted that long? Lennox was in the ascendency and had taken vitali's best shots and somehow survived them. No way in hell Vitali sees the final round

The way Vitali staggered back to his corner after the sixth suggests he was set to be ko'd. Lewis was on top at the end and landing very big punches and all Vitali wanted to do was hold. Yes he proved a lot of people wrong about him, yes he made Lewis look bad but he wasn't good enough to beat him on the night.

btw love how people still say "the cut" as though there was only one. Lewis may as well have swapped gloves with Fred Krueger.

It's not a 'myth' or "would have"

Lennox who is the ATG did KO Vitali.

Look it up. Lennox TKO Vitali round 6.

    KO is contained within T.K.O

Vitali was in the same position, he wasn't preparing to fight Lewis( one of the GOATS on 2 weeks notice), he was preparing for Cedric Boswell... If ANYTHING vitali was in a worse position. With the proper training and preparation Vitali KO's prime lewis
