Despite where your allegiance lies in the Pac/PBF debacle and ignoring resume, legacy and all the other crap.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is undoubtly in the Top 100 ATG in terms of pure boxing ability.

Where would you rank his boxing skills overall?

people are going to call me biased...

but and these are all true facts

    he can fight inside
    he can fight outside
he can fight you mid range
    he can lead
    he can counter
    he has grade A defense
    he has speed
he can fight on the move
he can fight on the stand still

IMO he's gotta be top ten in terms of versatility....

Floyd has great footwork and can box the ears of most fighters today. I think he has more to give if only he would top worrying about legacy and ATG considerations. If he dont fight pacman next year he loses any respect he may still have with the average man.:deal

How do you compare someone like Mayweather to someone like Walker? Different styles need different abilities. Not comparable at all. BS thread.

I wish he would worry more about legacy and ATG ranking, rather than just focusing on the biggest available payday. If he did, we would have seen Mayweather vs Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao.

He has the skill to school them all but he don't use, it just seems a huge waste of talent to me.

ironically enough.... I was watching floyd vs demarcus corley... and larry merchant called floyd out for not fighting "zab" who he went on to fight a whip and george foreman was saying floyd & sharmbe mitchell would be a toss up fight and gatti might take him out

I think the way floyds career developed a lot of people jumped on the band wagon later... either as fans or haters and due to that people look at his career in hind sight... not on the actual time frame that it occurred at

Boxing ability to me would be the ability to hit with accuracy while not being hit, the ability to slip, block and avoid shots, ability to counter, footwork and speed, a fighters range of punches and their execution there-of and their shot selection. Ability to fight inside/outside, their ring intelligence & generalship.

It isn't unreasonable to rate these things and place one fighter above another.

OK, ask the question ... who has the better boxing ability, Mickey Walker (in modern apparel) and Floyd Mayweather Jr?

Top 10 was my vote... no-one should vote less than top 20 if they are being honest with themselves.

The guy is a selfish piece of **** that doesnt deserve his ability but he does have the ability so it is what it is & you must call it as such.

Ps. message to critic, sort yourself out, your not being honest.

    boxing ability = technical foundation

if you taught boxing to a student what would you want to teach him?

    straight punches
    good foot work
    defense
    etc etc

He is displaying those abilities against what? Not great opponents. But against tougher opponent Floyd is not impressive, see Castillo vs Mayweather, Oscar vs Floyd, etc.

Pure speculation. He shown his talent against weak, old and slow opponents.

Your being clouded by bias here, we have seen his ability against a range of opponents throughout his career, including guys at the highest level. Under no circumstances can you claim Mayweathers boxing skilss as speculation against weak/overmatched opponents.
