I think there are more talanted (I'm not saying that he's ****. I want to make that clear) and exciting middleweights than Carlos Monzon. However he uses his size to his advantage. He dose a good job of staying on the outside where he can hit and not be hit. I think he has the ability to keep away from smaller guys like Greb and LaMotts away from him. Match ups I'd like to see. Ray Robinson. Robinson has more skills. They are about the same height. Monzon hs a 4 inch reach advantage. Marvin Hagler. I think Hagler can out box Monzon. He's a lot shorter than Monzon but only gives up an inch in reach. Hagler is stistictly the better puncher as well. Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins is one of the most crafty boxers of all time. It would be intresting to see what he would have in his bag of tricks for Monzon. Roy Jones Jr.. How dose Monzone do with someone who is about as big as him. As well as much faster. Will Jones inexpreance be a factor?
And again I´m wondering what the hell Jones Jr. did at mw that makes people think he could hang in there with the best ever at the weight.
His strengths- the strong right hand and the trombone jab which made him hard to reach. Monzon to me was a human praying mantis. A giant squid also, alluding to his effectiveness at tying up incoming opponents. One glaring weakness...his slowness. I feel Hagler, with his all-around abilities, will be able to effectively slip Monzon's slow jab and effective counter to the body, culminating in either a points win or late TKO. Same with Robinson, a clear points win. I feel the speedy Roy Jones would've just run roughshod through the entire match. Monzon would look clueless against him. Michael Nunn, who has Carlos' range with far more speed, would not be good news either. Hearns being a fast starter has a good chance early on. If he can land his right hand first, Carlos could be in trouble. But if it goes into the deep waters, Monzon has the edge. Still it's a tossup. The rangy clubbers like Foster and Fitzsimmons would flatten him. They were freaks of nature when it came to power.
Yeah, I know you were having a laugh at our expense. I'm shocked itry hasn't joined in yet. But seriously, I think Monzon's competition stacks up evenly (at least) with Hagler's. But does it even matter at that level? Because I think Monzon beats everyone that Hagler beat, and Hagler beats everyone Monzon beat. As for the topic question. Of course I give Hagler a chance to beat him. Robinson. Burley. I don't do head to heads with Greb, don't know. Hagler, Burley, Robinson, I'll say Monzon goes 2-1.
Green as he may have been, the Hopkins that Jones fought was better than anybody Carlos stepped into a ring with in his entire career.
cautiously, constantly coming forward. He doesnt rush in, he corners opponents then bludgeons them, from what ive seen
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7729279&postcount=34 Monzon was like the Colorado River when it created the Grand Canyon.
As that Hopkins? Yes, Valdes. And Benvenuti. Griffith and Briscoe were probably as good/dangerous. You anti Monzon/Foster agenda is well documented. I won´t discuss with you since it´s been done to death and is a waste of time. But here is my opinion.
Strengths: Everything. Weaknesses: Being too good, and in the process making all of his opponents look ****.
Or maybe you should just shut up. As if I haven´t seen him pre-Jones. I´m a big fan of his, sweetheart.
