    McGuigan was being protected a bit by friendly judges against Cruz..... The fight of 1986 was great, but Cruz was taking over in the later rds..... Them knockdowns secured the nod for Cruz..... Too bad Cruz never fought that good ever again..... It was a one night deal......

    I dont mean to nitpick here mate but i dont know how you come to that conclusion. I mean, i was 13 or 14 and i knew about Nelson. You say the sanchez fight made him, i agree, but that was in 1982 before McGuigan even fought Penphrase for the british title. The eliminator with chitule was 2 years after Nelson made his name against Sanchez, therefore he was pretty well known at that time.

    No big deal anyway, its a sport of opinions and peoples different takes and interpretations on things:good

    Actualy I think that a lot of people saw Fred Fulton as the frontrunner before Wills defeated him.

    The closest Lewis-Bowe came to happening was early 1993, when an offer was put forth to Lewis from the Bowe camp & SOME negotiations took place. If the fight were to have materialized then, I go with Bowe to win! At that time, 1993, Bowe was the better fighter! Lewis was not the fighter then who he would go on to become some years later!

    :!: Bad luck Klompton - OK OK Harry was black so obviously Dempsey was terrified of him and theres no way in the world Jack could beat any black fighter especially a fairly average fighter in Harry Wills???? Oh yeah Dempsey routinely gave Big Bill Tate a working over :lol: How did Harry go versus Tate in 1922?? oh yeah got his ass DQ'd and got floored, cut, and managed to scrape a draw = maybe Wills would've given Jack some useful sparring :bbb
