ufoalf, brock is the only person to ever not get knocked out by carwin right? Then, not only does he not get knocked out by carwin, he actually beats him. How is this not due of props? I dont understand why so many people seem to do all they can to withhold respect from Brock (im not saying you in particular, but certain fans for sure). Nobody gave him the win against Carwin, he took it. Im just not understanding what the problem is.... so brock was hurt against carwin... and? so what. he survived, and went on to i believe control carwin by the end of the same round if im not mistaken. or is it just the 'good chin' statements that you have a problem with and nothing else? And yes, it does take heart to endure a pounding like that and go on to win.
Brock is a phenom, but I really don't see him running faster then Rice & Smith like that article claims.
There's too much hateraid on this forum. If you want it spelled out for you everyone that considers themselves a Pride die-hard will hate on Brock Lesnar no matter what he does. The only way to change their mind would be for Brock to actually fight and defeat Fedor which will never happen and even if it did at this stage in their respective careers, people would claim Fedor was old and discredit his win. I do consider myself a fan of Pride because I was watching that **** when it was just called the Japanese Vale Tudo but I am a fan of MMA first and foremost. I call it like I see it and when the good fighters were in Pride I said they were in Pride - but for the last four years - with the exception of Fedor, the best heavyweights have been in the UFC. Brock is the king of that division at the moment and deserves to be respected for it. He won his title and has defended it twice against a top submission fighter and against the most devastating puncher in the division. If he can continue his winning streak against Velazquez and Dos Santos - he will be unstoppable.
Maybe Carwin should stop fighting unknowns and has beens, the guy hasnt really stepped up against any k-1 level kickboxers. The UFC doesnt really have any proven K-1 level fighters apart from a couple of semi-retired fighters like Hunt and CroCop. Also from what I saw, it wasnt Brock overcoming Carwin but Carwin beating himself by showing up ill prepared to go for the full fight. If he was truely good enough, teams would make a bit of leway. In Brocks case even his WWE fame wasnt enough for the lack of top level talent and ability. Those guys are on a whole another level of physicality. Exactly, if Cawin wasnt green and had more accuracy and power then only one good shot would have been needed. Simply put, Carwin blew his load and didnt choose his punches properly. Brock who is also green didnt know how to respond and just ran away and or covered up. Either arm punches or weak elbows, Carwin doesnt have the technique. After the second minute his punches were weakening and after 4 minutes he was already a zombie. In the second round he could hardly stand up. Brock actually hasnt faced that many people since switching to MMA. Compare the number of fights in the first 4 years for Fedor to Lesnars, Lesnar is clearly not too busy. Also Brock has really faced fighters in their decline, the only top 10 fighters he has faced is Carwin (over rated) and Mir (gives up too easily). We look at what Brock has to offer and how he fights and look at other fighters. These talk of new breeds of HW is over rated, many of the older fighters were not only better wrestlers but also better kickboxers. Challenging himself and going up against proven fighters like Overeem and Fedor wouldnt hurt convince everyone.
Brock is 5 - 1. No one in boxing would take a guy with a 5 - 1 career as serious as MMA fans do. He has MUCH to prove before he can be taken seriously.
I see the point you are trying to make, but come on, the comparisons between boxing and MMA just have to stop. So what if boxing fans wouldn't take him seriously. Boxing fans also dismiss a fighter after a loss, so what? Brocks wresting (not WWE) was substantial, and he brought that experince to MMA. Brock is not a finished product, but he has to be taken seriously. Even if you think the guys he beat are overrated, past their prime or whatever, anyone who beats them is to be taken seriously.
The guys an anilmal possibly the hardest one on one fight ever on the street. Hed beat 22 year old Tyson on the street
I;m a boxing fan too, bro. How many fights did Leon Spinks have when he beat Muhammad Ali for the heavyweight championship of the world?
He didn't endure much of a pounding. No it's not deserving of credit. Yes, "good chin" **** is ******ed and people who say those things about Brock just like his tattoo thats all. Listen, there's people in the UFC with so much more heart than Brock Lesnar and have shown so much more heart then him and they show it fight after fight and you don't hear **** about it. Lesnar didn't even show any heart. What he showed was that his arms are so ****ing big that the can cover his head effectively. I give him props. He didn't show anything of his chin, if anything from what I've seen it's pretty damn weak compared to the rest of his physique. He didn't show any more heart than a fighter who goes out into an MMA fight and fights. The credit he got from this fight is WAY overwhelming. To summarize his victory fairly: Brock Lesnar won the fight... good job. I'll throw in props for going out of his way and being humble after the fight. Perhaps his illnes has been lifechanging for him. But I'll reserve my judgement for later date.
He won't get past one of them 100%. I was certain in the outcome of Carwin fight but I guess common sense gods put Carwin on ignore list that night. Not sure about Valezquez, his stand up seemed to have improved a lot. So I'm not certain about the outcome there. Dos Santos will cave Brocks face in if he gets past Cain.
Brocks WWE experience has no relation WHATSOVER to MMA. Agreed there is no comparison between boxing and MMA but the stats dont lie. He's record is 5 - 1. Thats not the kind of record that can be used to promote Brock to any upper echelon of this sport. So far he's faced some solid competition. He has an excellent win over Frank Mir but thats where it ends for me. His win over Couture for me is the equivalent of Sapp beating Ernesto Hoost. Great win for Sapp but only the type of win to make people sit up and take note up to that point. In only Brocks third fight in the UFC, despite having a .500 record, he was gifted a shot at Couture infront of ALL other contenders. Its pretty clear what the UFC's marketing strategy is with Brock. So far he continues to win but only just. Randy despite being 50lbs smaller than him was able to bully him and Carwin nearly had him out in the first round. When Brock starts taking on the better contenders in his division like JDS Cain etc, gets some wins and experience under his belt and starts showing some dominance in his division then il take him seriously. But at 5 - 1 theres no way im going to think he's the next coming of Mark Kerr despite whatever the UFC hype machine would have you believe.
