Do You Think Pacquiao Will Still Fight Floyd After The Rant & The Legal Issues?

    I'm not so sure anymore.

That is, I'm beginning to think that Pacquiao may just walk away from the Floyd fight and not allow Mayweather to make a huge payday against him following the race-based Ustream rant and now the legal issues which Floyd is dealing with.

There are no more big fights for Floyd Mayweather except Manny Pacquiao. Berto? Couldn't even draw 1,000 paying customers, supposedly, in his last fight. Martinez? Set to rematch Paul Williams. Does anyone actually think a Floyd-Martinez fight would bring in the interest or money that Floyd wants to make?

Paul Williams? No chance, unless he looks like junk against Martinez in the rematch. Williams is one of the three reasons (Cotto and Margarito being the two other) that Floyd retired. Can't see that fight happening, ever, unless Paul just falls off dramatically in his ability.

Floyd Mayweather will be 34 years old in about 5 months. He's not getting any younger and he doesn't seem to have lost his taste for "living large." He needs money, always needs money.

So you figure Floyd would eventually have to fight Pacquiao, for the money, whether he wanted to fight him or not. But what if Pacquiao now decides to flip the script and walk away from Floyd, as Floyd did to him twice before?

After ducking Pacquiao twice, going off on the Ustream rant and now facing this latest legal mess, Pacquiao and his team may just decide to leave Money May hanging out to dry. Why give the other guy a payday and a chance to get his reputation back when he and his team have gone out of their way to smear you repeatedly to anyone who would listen.

Pacquiao is now a Congressman. He's the Pound-For-Pound king. He's got the high ground now after Mayweather's latest stunts.

As Manny said, he no longer needs Mayweather. If Pacquiao defeats Margarito, he will be an 8-division champion and likely climb even further in boxing historians' "All Time Greats" lists.

Manny walking away from an increasingly-desperate Mayweather could be the ultimate trump card, the ultimate payback.

We'll see if Team Pacquiao -- should they get past Margarito -- decides to pull it from the deck.

I think a lot of it will be how vengeful Pacquiao is feeling towards Mayweather, provided he gets past Margo.

If Pac really wants to screw Mayweather, he'll just leave him hanging and without a huge payday.

    We'll see.

Won't change a thing other than standing his ground on a bigger share IMO.

By the time Mayweather is ready to fight again, assuming its 2011, the winner of Martinez/Williams WILL be available, and if its Martinez, and they make Mayweather vs Martinez at 160, that will be a big fight.

Also, by the time Floyd is ready to fight again, the winner between Bradley vs Alexander will be in the limelight and would make a good fight for Mayweather.

I wouldnt discount a fight between Mayweather and Cotto if Cotto doesnt lose by then.....

    Mayweather vs

    Martinez
    Bradley/Alexander winner
    Cotto

are all options for Mayweather, and options against opponents where he would be in control of most of the negotiations as well.

I think Mayweather is sitting fine when it comes to boxing. With how little he fights, those three fights alone could take up his next two years.

Fight Martinez asap, then let the winner of bradley/alexander have a showcase fight afterwards, let them build that up a bit more, then fight them, and afterwards if Cotto has regained more stature, cap it off with him.

Do i see this happening? No i dont, but just the fact that its possible shows Mayweather is hardly in a desperate situation in terms of boxing... besides Pac, he is still the man everyone from 135-160 wants to fight. The only reason it appears to be getting slim pickings is because people seem accustomed to Mayweather not taking on hard fights when they at the right time.... so we limit his opponents to people that 'seem realistic'.

But if it comes down to it, Mayweather has plenty of options.

And who knows if Pac would turn down a Mayweather fight in the future. I hope not though, id still like to see the fight.

    Good post, thanks! :good

Yeah, could see the Bradley/Alexander winner fight happening. Same with Cotto. Maybe Martinez.

I really don't see Pac walking away from this fight no matter what happens, unless of course Floyd goes to jail for X amount of time.

I think people forget that Pac has an ego himself and also likes the money. Who wouldn't at their level?

Not to mention that Pac always wants to bring the fight that the fans want to see.

Floyd really messed up these last couple weeks. Beforehand, I felt that Mayweather would have had a lot of leverage if Pac/Marg doesn't sell 1M+. Team Pac would have had to settle for 45/55 or maybe even 40/60. Now that the whole racism/assault blunders occured, I truly feel that the Pretty Boy has lost a lot of the bargaining power he had if they were to go into negotiations this winter or spring. If Floyd had only kept his mouth shut!

It's not really a question on if PAC would still fight Floyd....it's will Floyd fight PAC. That's BEEN the question. And from the looks of things now Floyd is NOT going to fight Manny. He's got too much going on and I don't think he's too eager to jump in to a fight with Manny knowing the risk that is involved. MONEY won't even bring Floyd to the dance so compound that with all his negative press and legal issues this is a perfect way for Floyd to bow out of the fight and not have utter a word about not really wanting it with PACMAN.
