when i first read about jorge, i thought of him as a journeymen who fought the fight of his life against honeyghan to win the wbc title and then was stopped in the rematch. but when i look at his record

    loss to terry norris sd

    two victory over quincy taylor

    victory over mark breland

    victory over older pipino cuevas

i over looked his class, was he a elite fighter?

Depends what you consider elite? Definitely a legit and dangerous welter but while short in the skills department he had a lot of experience, grit and above average power also a sneaky right hand. He was capable of beating a good fighter if they werent at their best but was also beateable and kind of slow. Kind of like a Baldomir with a better punch but not as good a chin.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but didn't Simon Brown stop him with a series of bodyshots?

Id say both those guys were better than Vaca. Especially Mckinney.

Like i said earlier Carlos Baldomir without the chin but better power.

About same class as Margarito & Aquino. good for his day, but not elite. Cuevas would have dispatched him rather quickly in his prime.

He stopped him with a series of just about every horrific punch in the book. A brutal pasting.

Not at all. He just had respectable power to go with. Killed Dracula in Guadalajara.

Your giving Vaca too much credit here and shortchanging Margo and Aquino. Both those guys are better than Vaca. Aquino could really bang and had a good chin also had better skills than Vaca. As for Margo skill wise they are similar but Margo is way tougher!!!

I agree that a prime Pipino would have blown out Vaca.

vaca was just a hard working fringe contender who got slightly lucky against Honeyghan imo.same kind of level as someone like Bobby Joe young.Bigger hitting, less durable Baldomir is a good comparison.
