Who are Monzon's best opponents on his record? Would SRR, Hagler, Greb and Hearns do away with them too? Plus, Greb beat or was competitive with Gene Tunney who was bigger than Monzon.
Paul, I don't think any other middleweight (besides Greb) could move up and beat a Gene Tunney...Do you? I think SRR, Hagler, and Greb beat Monzon's opponents...Hearns would problably outpoint Benvenuti, (old) Griffith, and Briscoe...Valdez? Rodrigo might get to Hearns...it is a pick em fight. Hearns has the ability to outpoint Valdez as well...But Valdez is a beast, he could stop Hearns.
Griffith I & II Benvenuti I & II Valdes I & II Gratien Tonna Tony Licata Tony Mundine Jose Napoles Bennie Briscoe II Tom Bogs Denny Moyer Jean Claude Bouttier I I've seen all these fights on youtube. Not sure if they're all still there but most of them are.
On the contrary, prats who base their picks in fantasy match-ups on how "icy-cool" somebody's stare was or how "ruthless" and "psychotic" their attitude was just need to get real. It's not about flashiness; it's about skills. Monzon didn't have any. Hence people start referring to bull**** mystique as an alternative.
Valdez KO % is only 57.53. Valdez has numerous journeyman on his record. Not exactly impressive. Briscoe, who started out as a welter weight has similar numbers. I would not call either guy big punchers at middle. Would you mind listing your top 30 middleweights?
Probably, though that's a natural consequence of disagreement. Agenda posting?? I don't have an agenda. I attack/defend all sorts of different fighters from all sorts of eras.
More a result of your believing/pretending to believe that Monzon had no skill, was "never really hit hard" in his entire career and that all his opponents were ****, including Griffith, who just "plodded forwards" and only beat Dick Tiger because he was "on his death bed".
Yeah, Briscoe could definitely bang. He ended up with a higher KO% than either Ike Williams or Sam Langford. Those numbers just aren't everything.
