He can still do a jab-like quick straight left, although it's more of an annoyance rather than something damaging. He actually does it against Cotto in Round 4, at around the 1:20 mark, but he feinted first to force Cotto into giving away a lane where Pac could shoot the left down the middle before Cotto can reset himself from the feint and react to the actual punch. Even then, that entire sequence was only a set-up to move to Cotto's left before Cotto could even realize what happened.

Everyone says Floyd throws a quicker single shot while Pacquiao throws faster combinations. That doesn't make much sense at all if you think about it. How can Mayweather be faster with one punch and Manny be faster with 3, 4, or 5, when those numbers break down into individual punches?

Pick any 1 of those shots and they have to be faster or at least as fast as anything Floyd has thrown.

Personally, I see Berto as faster than both Pac & Mayweather. (When it comes to pure hand speed)
Again, That don't mean ****, It's the combination of speed & timing that counts.

Out of the the 2, IMO Mayweather best describes this.

He's shadow boxing and not throwing punches at full extension. That's why it looks super fast.

really, its not really feasible to compare the two in a linear fashion

*PBF has the faster punch. But i think Pac has the faster combo punching. PBF doesnt work off of combo punching, thats why. Pac is well more practiced and well-acquainted in maintaining a sense of power and balance while unleashing flurries. I feel PBF doesnt throw combos because he doesnt want to be caught off-balanced and get countered. The biggest key in winning for PBF in controlling the fight is by beating Manny to the punch, which he can do. I dont think his counters will be as effective as a controlling deterrent than vs other opponents. Control Manny by beating him to the punch and keep him from getting into an attack rhythm.

*Footwork - offensive, thats a given. Everyone's giving that to Pacquiao because his offense is wholly thru his wonderful angular footwork. Whats not covered is defensively. PBF is obviously under-rated here with his defensive footwork. To me, its the same speed, but just like the previous comparison, its not feasible to compare them in a linear fashion. Pac's footwork is employed much more often than PBF's defensive footwork.... therefore, he has BETTER use of his footwork. But PBF has his own speed to get himself out of trouble, and he's used it to dodge punches altogether.

    *Reflex - definitely PBF

    *Power - definitely Pacquiao

*Mental Strength - definitely Pacquiao (Relentlessness)

generally - speed, reflex and defense wins over power. But timing, angles, and flurries will overcome speed, reflex, defense too, and Manny DOES have that also.

And lastly, is the Pacquiao Xfactor, his Relentlessness. His passion for competition, to pressure, push, and overwhelm an opponent's defensive sense. I think the mental part of this "dream fight" plays out as the most Influential aspect of the fight. PBF doesnt like to get hit - IT SHOWS. He's not called PBF for no reason, cuz he values on not getting hit thru his great defense. But being hit by Pac is INEVITABLE, and there's NO WAY to mitigate his punches except to beat him to the punch. I believe that Mayweather knows he has no answers in mitigating Pac's flurries except to try to counter thru them. But the last thing he cares for is to be caught countering (going back to getting hit). And NO ONE knows when Pac stops throwing, and he dont stop when he does get countered.... thats Mayweather's problem

    IMO - Strong advantage, Pacquiao

Agree on most parts except mental strength. Floyd is very mentally strong, stems from his will to remain undefeated I believe. This guy can get seriously hurt and come back next round, adjust gameplan and go to work. He can be down a few rounds, come back and disect the opponent.

You ever play a game with someone? You are both evenly match but at some point it becomes very mentally frustrating that you dont perform as well as you did. This example is evident in tennis, when sometimes it just goes to deuce, advantage, back to deuce and no one has the upper hand until someone eventually gives in.

IMO, FMJ can break anyone down cos I dont think the guy would ever mentally give up in the ring, always looking to go up another level if needs be.

Pac on the other hands starts from top gear off the bat and he will keep coming non stop, however even in the Morales/JMM fights, he didnt give up but I didnt see him up it another level either when he needed to. I guess he couldn't at the time, he wasnt skilled enough.

Floyd doesn't only have mental toughness, but he also has the biggest EGO in sports.

    Exactly.:good

There's a reason why Floyd Mayweather Sr. was begging Pac for him to be in his corner instead of Roach. When Pac told him to **** off, Floyd sr. accused him of using roids. ****ing ******ed if you ask me.
