Matt Korobov vs. Anthony Greenidge


Round 1

Greenidge throws some wide hooking combos but gets shut down quickly by the power of Korobov, who punches with him and winds up getting the last shot in on every exchange. Greenidge backs off and Korobov scores moving forward with the jab.

10-9 Korobov

 

Round 2

Korobov is penetrating with his southpaw 1-2 and the drilling right jab by itself. Greenidge is slapping around to the side of Korobov's head with fat hooks while backing up a bit to get off. Lead left from Korobov backs Greenidge up involuntarily. He continues to control the range with his jab but Greenidge shells up and looks to land to the body after absorbing jabs on his forearms. 1-2 lands for Korobov.

20-18 Korobov

 

Round 3

Greenidge is swiveling on his hips to throw massive hooks and also chopping out with the right hand but Korobov is evading well with his quick and nimble feet. Greenidge has a split brow - presumably from a punch as there haven't been too many butts. Korobov throws a brutal left uppercut to the body that catches Greenidge walking forward. Korobov remains slick on his feet as a tiring Greenidge punches after him with ihs mouth open, and Korobov lands a check right hook.

30-27 Korobov

 

Round 4

Korobov puts his right jab out and drops it at will on Greenidge's face without ever needing to retract it fully. Greenidge throws a lead right but is clearly out of his league in punching technique, power, and speed. Korobov backs Greenidge up with a right hook that leaves him momentarily open for a pair of slapping body shots from Greenidge, which is the only time he's really successful. Greenidge leans into Korobov with his elbows tucked and regains some wind while Korobov carries him to the ropes. The left hand crashes through the gloves of Greenidge as a lead for Korobov. Greenidge walks into a 1-2-3 that stuns him but he keeps coming forward. Greenidge chases Korobov across the ring and runs into a pair of jabs.

40-36 Korobov

 

Round 5

(This is the round where Greenidge was stopped by Gennady Golovkin)

Korobov patiently works the 1-2 while Greenidge circles and taunts him, mocking his power after taking flush left crosses. For all that, Greenidge is still keeping his high guard and trying to avoid getting hit as much as possible. Greenidge keeps trapping the jab of Korobov and reeling him in to tie him up. Korobov begins to box on the back foot a bit to stay at jabbing range. Good left uppercut from Korobov. Greenidge getting picked off with jabs but not hurt, and throwing next to nothing with his constant but ineffective aggression. Korobov throws single and double shots and tries to slip on his way out but gets caught by a Greenidge right hand just before the bell while stretching back at the waist and pulling his upper body back.

 

Round 6

Greenidge starts with a noisy slapping combo to the gloves. Korobov defends and waits his turn to jab Greenidge backward. Greenidge keeps trying to push forward with slapping shots and works his right hand to the back as they clinch. Greenidge walks right into Korobov with his turtle shell and then pulls down on the back of Korobov's head, trying to take his vision away so he can land to the body. Slapping shots to the body from Greenidge. Korobov actually losing the round as Greenidge is outhustling him. Good left hook lands for Greenidge as he backs Korobov up. Korobov seems taken aback by this sudden burst of aggression sustained for two straight minutes. Korobov turns Greenidge and lands to the body. Right hook under the elbow lands for Korobov. Then a nice flurry from Korobov as Greenidge wings a hook at him with his hands down. Another WILD hook from Greenidge.

Korobov 59-55

 

Round 7

Korobov puts his 1-2 on auto-fire as he rapidly and repeatedly turns the left cross over into the face of Greenidge. Korobov is eating a couple of jabs as he is focusing more on maintaining a constant offense in stark contrast to the previous round. Other than that, Greenidge is getting off very little and has abandoned his double slaps to the body. Korobov uses his superior footwork to get around and explore different angles to hit Greenidge from with jabs and lead lefts. Korobov looks a bit bored and frustrated at Greenidge not going away. Greenidge throws his orthodox 1-2 hard but slow and Korobov evades easily. Flurry from Korobov to end the round.

69-64 Matt Korobov

 

Round 8

Korobov throws three and four at a time but Greenidge is covering up in between his own slapping and slicing shots. Korobov manages to shove Greenidge into a bit of a waver and follows up with a nice left to the chin that sends him backpedaling. Korobov with a left uppercut and right hook combo as Greenidge comes forward with his arms up. Greenidge has blood pouring in his eye. He's daring Korobov to open up on him and is clearly no longer trying to win the fight. Korobov just whacks him as accurately and as hard as he can but can't quite put Greenidge away.
