I would rate Salido as an B+/A- class fighter and titleholder. There's been titleholders who were way less skilled and talented... I think most were thinking this would be another Gamboa steamroll, but didnt realize this is a high B/low A class opponent.... At least his trainers didnt underestimate Salido....
some people talk about Salido as if he was a nobody look at his record and his fights, his durability.I knew it would be a great test for gamboa. and gamboa beat him with no doubts
gamboa is talented but still has the flaws originating from his amateur background. 1. he throws flurries of arm punches but most them doesnt land. they look flashy but meaningless when they don't hit the target. he needs to sit on his punches more and maybe he could easily knock an opponent out. 2. he has flashy footwork but again it's meaningless when you can't use it to your advantage. most of the time he couldn't reach salido when he throws his flurries and when salido attacks, gamboa couldnt get out and avoid the pressure. footwork maybe flashy but one must use it to get to specific locations in the ring, otherwise its meaningless. 3. defense is unorthodox and again flashy but when you're getting hit alot maybe its time to raise your gloves and block the punches. 4. he lacks gameplan. he came there to attack attack attack but when salido didn't go away he didn't know what to do, he couldnt even sustain his attack, attack gameplan. good thing he was able to finish strongly by the last rounds.
Seems to happen way too often....you can call it a slip if you want...some call it a delayed reaction from the solid punch. He ate way too many punches from a ridiculously slow Salido. I am more worried about Marquez than Gamboa that is for damn sure!!! Seriously....does anyone really believe that Gamboa is ready for Lopez?
