The biggest problem I think would probably be Haye for his speed & power who could get in the inside but I don't think he's strong & durable enough to hang with either Wladimir or Vitali.
I knew someone would pick up my pun! Especially when I said, "into the Klits" referring to vaginal intercourse.
Its a very good analysis :good I have to point only that with that high guard this guy mentions you would be a very vulnerable to uppercuts.
Good insight in the videol. But saying, and doing, are two diffferent things. Let us not forget that that the shots Ali made you pay with were not nearly as hard as the shots Wlad makes you pay with. But I see the Ali Wlad comparison coming up, more and more. Its about time.
Yes, the high, Archie Moore *crab* guard is the breeding ground for Wlad's newly found uppercut. :smoke So that point, the video did not address, at all, even though Wlad's uppercut was used repeatedly, and to good effect. :good Other than the power that Wlad has, that Ali did not, and Wlad's new uppercut use, the video otherwise was very well thought out and articulated.
Good anaylysis. BUT...He forgot to mention Klitschkos excessive holding and leaning. Yes getting inside Wlad is part of it, but then he just falls on top of you and it's nearly impossible to punch while carrying a 6'7 245lb man on your back. The part about Klitschko lack of lateral movement was right on. I think you have to give Wlad angles to be able to pressure him effectively. Just pressing forward has proven not to work (unless you got some decent size/reach yourself). It's just asking to be clinched. You have to pres forward, use head movement and then angle off to the side, so he cant drape himself over you. The high guard is a nice tactic, but it's hard to punch form that position. I'd only use it at long range in conjunction with lots of head movement.
Yeah the uppercuts would be the price for avoiding Wlad's big left hooks and straight rights. But i think Wlad isn't that effective with his uppercut, so "Archie Moore" style defence isn't a bad idea.
Very good post. That's what i also was wondering about - how to avoid Wlad clinching and leaning on you with his body weight?.
The problem with trying from angles is Wlad is very good at switching his jab into a cross/hook. He'll just switch to wide hooks to make you pay. Then if you avoid that, he'll just lay on top of you and wear your body out with his weight. His new uppercut is something he'll continue to evolve, especially since he saw how effective it was. He likes using what works for him, and that uppercut was really working.
A good start would be do what Chuvalo did to Ali, make him pay for holding you, discourage him from doing what he does.Make him think twice, take him out of his comfort zone. Fight out of a crouch, bend the knees. Make him punch down, it's dangerous, test his nerve. Wlad's biggest deficiency is his bottle.
Yes he should. But if the ref doesn't do his job, you have to do yours. Pound the body in the clinch, fall down and get the ref's attention, or shoot uppercuts when he gets close. If you can't count on the ref, you have to depend on yourself.
Ali kept holding him behind the head and pulling his head down, every time he did Chuvalo just whacked his body withh the right hand as hard as he could until Ali let go and in Chuvalo's own words after the fight Ali went to the hospital and George went dancing with his wife. The point a fighter doesn't have to just accept a clinch, look at the old timers, they fought in the clinches, you can make a guy let go rather than just waiting for the ref.
