Should Wladimir Klitchko be allowed by the ref to do what he always does?

Wlad is one of the most cowardly fighters that I have seen. His whole style is based on him being the only one able to punch. It's like he wants to fight a heavy bag. Wlad exploits his freakish height and reach to jab opponents to keep them at bay at a range where they have no chance of hitting him with a punch. When his opponent finally manages to get inside, which some are willing to take a lot of damage for, where they can actually reach him he holds them every single time.

Should it be legal to hold your opponent without even being hit or hurt anytime they get anywhere remotely near you. How is this fair to shorter fighters who need to get inside just to be able to connect? They literally have no chance to win with this tactic. It almost feels like he is cheating. I like to watch a "fight" where an opponent can fight back. Not a sparring session where only 1 fighter is ever able to land a punch.

It's not fair, but if the ref allows, it's up to his opponent to figure out how to counter it.

In the end you either do something about it or stand there and take it. His opponents simply accpet it, and after enough rounds, welcome it.

the difference is that those fighters had a chance of being hit back. Wlad has no chance of being hit with this tactic. So it ends up not really being a fight.

Thats not true at all; Wlad didn't get those nasty bruises on his back while Peter was fighting from a distance. They have the option to punch him to the body in the clinch or try for uppercuts when Wlad is reaching.

It's not easy, but it is an option.

    Holding is necessary and annoying.

  10. The goal of boxing is to hit and not be hit. Wlad is really good at both of those.

I'll say it one more time... This thread starter needs to have his thread starting rights revoked until he's got about 500 posts. He's just filling our first page with this useless drivel.

Throw him in the 30's and 40's and Max Baer will make him look like Primo Carnera with his excessive holding/clinching/leaning/chokehold tactics.

Good point. Ali got away with the same put your opponent under your arms in a choke-hold type fashion. But the ref was starting to get on his case a little.

Still, Ali didn't punch and then LOOK to clinch. Foreman was nailing him to the body with helacious shots, and Ali avoided tons of shots with movement and such. The clinches started when Foreman was getting to close and swinging widly. When you have a clash in bodies it's natural for clinches to occur. It also don't not happen to the same degree of last nights fight. I'm sure Ali and Foreman were throwing twice as many punches as Wlad and Peter did combined.
