I like to do this post once a year. I started it in 2008 and then I look back at the results to see how people have changed or not changed their minds about wlad. Every year he cranks out more defenses and I believe even if his opponents arent frazier and foreman he is fighting the best available opposition and that is all we can ask of any champion.

So where do you currently rank wlad?

here is a link to my 2009 post.

I would also ask that if you can be bothered put your own list up to compare with the 2009 lists so you can justify your ranking.

He would be a threat to any ATG on any era. These virtual rankings are completely meaningless to me. Only real fights matter.

I cant decide between top 20 and 30. I'll probably put 20 but then **** loads of fighters will come flooding into my head.

I purposely made it top 15 for that reason, but mind you if wlad racks up another few defenses my 2011 post will have a top 10 ranking available:smoke

Fair enough. If he stays this dominant for another 2 years or so i wouldn't blame someone for making a top 10 case for him. But as of now i think top 10 is a bit stupid

What so more defences means higher rating??? If he were to beat haye and a few others convincingly then yes but **** defences no

yeah, i'm a huge wlad fan and I can't quite justify top 10 at the moment and top 15 might be a touch of a stretch. if pressed though, could I think of 15 heavyweights that were more skilled, more dominant and better h2h?

Wlad would probably be right in the mix during most any era. However, it's hard to rate him highly on an all time basis because his division has so little depth. Ali, Frazier, Foreman, et, all had opponents to test themselves, and prove themselves against. Wlad does not.

What exactly are you trying to measure here? The reign duration, number of defenses, quality of opposition, KO ratio, percentage of rounds won, punching accuracy, fantasy fights outcomes?

Using my criteria for ranking all time greats title defenses does count, so yes the more defenses you have and the length of your reign impact ATG status, you can debate this or not but you would need to put forth your criteria for not counting defenses and reign.

I find these very important criteria when ranking ATG's.

Boo lets be fair here. We rate Joe Louis in the top 5 (should be top 2) ATG heavy and he has arguably the weakest quality of opposition of any top 10 fighter.

reign and defenses count for a lot. We will likely never see the ali/frazier/foreman era ever again.
