I'm not to concerned about the fame/impact aspect.

It's hard to gauge fairly because I think when most people say that they are referring to how much impact said fighter has on the American market.

A lot of great fighters have had far more significant impacts in their home countries where they are revered as walking gods and have inspired countless young fighters to pick up the gloves. However would hardly be known outside of their homeland to all but hardcore fans.

Sure Wlad's profile in America isnt much chop but the dude is selling out stadiums in Germany and getting 2million people to watch it, how is that for an impact? The guy isnt even German..I thinks it pretty insular to assume that America is the only country that matters when it comes to boxing.

Who the hell has heard of guys like Luis Manuel Rodriguez or Charley Burley...some of the greatest ever, locks for top50 alltime but not half the profile of even a guy like Arturo Gatti (though truth be told LMR did pull crowd in his days and was well respecte, as was Charley).

Thats why I shun away from using that as a criteria...I mean the IBHOF uses that as a justification sometimes, thats why a bloke with a resume as flimsy as McGuigan can get in because of what he did outside the ring but a far superior fighter like Lionel Rose can't..even though he was the first Aboriginal to win a world title, he came home a national hero, inspired a generation of Aboriginal and non-aborginals alike, out of the 1 billion+ population of the Commonwealth was recognized for his achievements, was voted Australian of the Year and to this day his feat is talked about as one of the greatest things an Australian has ever done...but because America has a hard on for the Irish and not Australians, its Lionel who?
Thats the problem with that criteria IMO, its just to hard to be consistent with it, especially if you werent there at the time to gauge to impact of said fighter and especially if you cant be arsed digging about obscure fighters who mostly stayed at home, especially Asian ones.

no they difeinitely get props for that especially when they almost clear out the division your fighting in. But you should get extra props for moving up in weight taking on bigger fighters (obviously they have to be good fighters as well) like....Pacquaio, Jones, Hearns, Oscar etc... :yep
