Just for the hell of it: what would Floyd or Manny have to do to become GOAT

As we know, SRR did some legendary stuff, he went from LW to MW with over 170 fights under his belt, beat so many people and future HOFs pound for pound was coined after him, 120-1 etc etc.

That was that era... What would either of these two contemporary greats have to do respectively to top that?

A couple things to note would be the number of fights, back then fights happened multiple times a month, and many were tune ups for a bigger fight; nowdays the tune ups are all done in training camp and sparring.

IMO the availability of boxing knowledge and richness is greater today due to so many precedents being already set. Ex- Rope a dope and such, once unique tactics, have been emulated many times and become a regular part of other fighters repertoires.

They can beat every single challenger back to back to back to back etc in consecutive months and they wouldn't be considered as great as SRR.

If Pac continues his career until 37/38 fighting 2/3 times a yar and beating guys like Berto, Khan, Mayweather, Bradley, Martinez, Williams, Cotto, and any other big name that may come to the forefront, he can do it or come pretty damn close to it.

I know it sounds crazy but we don't know what can happen for example maybe a 36 year old Pac fights a guy like Alvarez when he is 22 or so and knocks him out and then Alvarez goes on to become a great fighter himself. I'm reaching but the point is we won't see what angle the next generation is coming from until it comes and if a past prime Pac can get on that consistantly and clear out his current generation as well then maybe.

BTW I'm not saying he has the ability to do it its just hypothetical

 

Neither has done done enough to even get close to GOAT. they gotta do some stupid **** like go up to light heavyweight or something crazy like that.

Well, this "era" of boxing is the PPV era, the pound for pound era, and the era of being unbeaten... I'd say they'd have to reign a decade in the top 3 P4P rankings, retire undefeated, unmangled, and unexploited, and also be one of the biggest PPV draws of all time. Wait a minute, one of these guys are all these!

I think people have to start separating time periods to be fair.

When ranking British fighters for example I divide them into pre and post war. So pre-war best would be Jimmy Wilde and post war number 1 Brit all of time would be Lennox Lewis (IMHO).

It's not fair to start comparing these guys to pre-war fighters because they can't win, in fact its unfair to both. I mean how can you even comprehend someone having almost 150 bouts and over 90 KO's in this modern time and age? Be more charitable fellas.

 

This isn't true, it's one of boxing's many myths. Even a quick google search of the old news archives brings up countless results using the term to refer to boxers years (and decades) before SRR had even stepped into the ring.

 

so who do you consider greater between Lennox Lewis and Jimmy Wilde.
