cotto definitely has a better resume...still gets his ass kicked at any stage of his career by Floyd....i hate that that fight did not materialize

I reakon they're pretty close, I don't take Cotto's loss against Pac into account as it wasn't a proper WW fight, so shouldn't really be listed, Nor Mayweather v Marquez.

Cotto Struggled with Mosley, some even feel Mosley won the fight, were as Mayweather dominated him. Some feel Clotty beat Cotto also. The rest is quite even imo. Hatton was a belt holder at the weight. So i'd slightly fancy Mayweather to have the better resume.

But if we're just going by names they fought irrispective of how they performed (which isn't how we judge resumes) then maybe Cotto.

Mayweather twice beat the lineal champion at 147, Cotto not once. Floyd is also unbeaten at the weight and dominated competition whereas Cotto suffered 2 heavy losses and has 2 other debated fights with Clottey and Shane.

quintana, judah, mosley and clottey compared to baldomir, judah, mosley, marquez, hatton.

cotto even fought pacquiao and margarito. over-all cotto has the more impressive wins and opponents at the weight. he challenged himself more than floyd.

Let me ask you a hypothetical question:

If the lineal champion is a C-class fighter, is beating the lineal champion more impressive than beating an A-class fighter who does not have any belt at the time?

Mosley was never lineal champion at 147. So Mayweather only once beat the lineal champion and that was Carlos Baldomir.

I think Cotto takes it as far as welterweight wins is concerned. Floyd dominated at superfeatherweight and lightweight whereas Cotto spent the majority of his career at welter, so it's to be expected. Flyd's resume is better than Cotto's overall however.

Thats not a bad question, i reakon people will be kind of spilt on this, the folks that bang on about winning belts in lots of different weight classes, an the folks that bang on about winning Lineal titles in different weight classes will more than likely pick beating the Lineal Champion as more impressive.

For me, beating a Class-A fighter wipes the floor with beating any form of lineal C-class fighter.

But going on the resumes, That C-Level fighter holds a win over one of Cottos best WW wins. Clottey (Altho DQ win they all count- Ask Dirrel fans), an was a fighter Cotto stuggled with an some actually believe he lost to.

    Me too.

And to be honest, I think anyone who disagrees is a moron.

Anything outside of the quality of the opponent is an irrelevance or a technicality.

All that matters, and all that has ever mattered, is the quality of the opponent. That's what boxing is about.

Cotto may have 2 losses at WW (which are debatable) but that's what happens when you challenge yourself, and take on fighters that others avoid. Honestly whether or not someone was champion or not when you beat them does not matter in my opinion. It's the quality of the opposition that ultimately counts, and Cotto has fought the better natural WW of his era compared to Mayweather.

Right so when Mosley is out of the ring for 16months 'he's ring rusty' coming off a layoff, but when Judah is coming off a 14month layoff and not looking half as good 'there's no justification for saying Judah was any different'

Popkins agenda exposed yet again :yep
