I don't think think it can be disputed. However, I would say that many of those knock downs occurred because Wlad panicked and made stupid decisions. He may never had a good chin, but when he gets hit hard now he knows what to do. The Sanders fight is a perfect example. He got cracked early on and what did he do? He didn't hold, he didn't move, he actually got in a slugfest with Sanders when he was already hurt. The Wlad of today would never do that.
Do you even watch the fights? The punch that he knocked Peter down with was an uppercut. atsch I admit he hasn't used it much. But I counted about a dozen of them the other night.
Is average getting knocked down 12 times? There are many fighters with average chins, and I would say Wlad's is below average. Wlad fights so well, and gets hit clean so littel that it's easy to forget about his chin.
No debating this. But obviously, your intention is to show that Wlad is vulnerable to a big puncher, like Haye. I agree that he is. However, if you think Wlads is just gonna get touched on the chin and that's it, you're mistaken. He's a different fighter now. If Haye or another big puncher were to hurt him, he'd grab, hold, or move. He would't make the same stupid decisions that led to 90 percent of his knock downs in the past.
He was off balance. He was not hurt and he did very well for the rest of the round so that 2 of the judges did not score it with 2 points difference.
Well, that's just not true. Lewis was dead against Rahman. He looked like a guy waking up from a 20 year coma. The ref could have given him five minutes to recover from that one. Also, he was out on his feet against Mccal. Both were legit stoppages. That said, Lewis had a better chin, or at least more confidence in his chin than Wlad has.
Good point, I agree with you fully. I don't think anyone in the heavyweight division at the moment would knock Wlad out, he guards his chin very well and is good at thwarting his opponents attack. I am just saying that teh Wlad who didn't protect his chin was prone to be knocked out. I think if WLad went into a fight with Haye like he did against Sanders and Puritty then eh mught well get knocked out, but you are right in saying that the WLad of now is very unlikely to be knocked out by anyone.
Most of the maybe 10 uppercuts he threw missed widely, were incredibly telegraphed, thrown in desperation, and thrown when Peter was gassed. That is not the sign of a confident fighter. If you compare him to Vitali for instance, Vitali threw and landed, PRECISE uppercuts starting in round 1.
The only time I've ever seen Vitali seriously hurt was when Sanders landed his sweet sniper. That dude could punch, believe me. Gotta love Jim BTW: "1st round much kinder to Vitali Klitschko against Corrie Sanders than was the case last year against his brotherHARD LEFT HAND STAGGERS VITALI!" Wlad is always going to be vulnerable to a big puncher. I agree with you there. But, as I've said, I think his decision making process is much better tese days. And, contrary to popular belief, I think that you can train a fighter to make good decisions even when he's hurt. Wlad is the text book example. No, he hasn't been hurt too badly since Peter knocked him down 5 years ago, but he has been hit. Peter hit him with a few decent shot just the other night. The old Wlad may have panicked from those blows. But the new one did not.
I agree with you fully, Wlad is still wary of his chin but I think his confidence in it has grown. His chin may not be the best in the sport, but he fights in a way that the issue does not matter.
I agree. I think Haye is the most dangerous challenger to the Klitschko crown since, well, ever. That's why we want to see the fight. Haye does have a chance, especially in the early round, to shake Wlad up and make things interesting. I doubt Wlad would go down because he has improved in that area, but there's no question that Haye has the power to hurt him.
