The fact is not that today heavyweight fighter are all week, they are OK the problem is Wlad makes them all look very bad. I think that Wlad is NUMBER ONE ATG. He beats everyone so easy, I think he has some kind of convention not to finish his opponents in the first rounds. He is playing for the first 8 rounds ( 20-30% from his potencial ) and then suddenlly begins to fight (70-80% potencial) and BANG. I think this guy at 100% potencial beats everyone in about 1 minute from the first round, he's got incredible power, he has the power to kill someone with a single punch ! Just look how heavy are those short punches with his left and how dangerous is that right even if you keep your gloves high.

This poll should be done separately for North America, Continental Europe and Britain.

Klitschko is ATG Top 10 now. Biased poll.

Brits and Americans should get over.

I find it impossible to rate a guy as an ATG when he's really never faced a very good fighter, let alone an ATG. Wlad has a very weak resume and has 2 unavenged losses where he was blown away by nothing guys. He's had a lot of defenses against poor opposition but that definitely doesn't make him great in my mind.

    I find it possible.

Klitschko is boxing the best available and is ducking no one. He completely dominates his opponents and is a Top10 HW for over 10 years now.

IMO he is on the edge to ATG Top10. Let him beat Adamek or Haye within the next 12 month and every serious boxing expert must have very good arguments not to put him in ATG Top10.

Wlad's first significant fight came in 1999, when he beat Axel Schultz. In 2000 he beat Chris Byrd. For the last 11 years Wlad has been fighting at the top level of the sport. For the first half of the decade he was one of the best, and for the second half he has been THE best. Longevity has to count for something, bearing in mind he doesn't look like he's going to lose any time soon

So if Ali was made to fight in this era he would never have been able to become a ATG? Assuming he just replaces Wlad and can't fight Vitali

What ATGs (in their prime) has Tyson beaten?

I'd say top 30. His biggest problem is lack of decent competition.

Tyson and Ali had ATG skills. That is why when they fought a bum they blew them away. Wlad does not do that. Leaning, Clinching, Pawing and waiting for your opponents to gas are not ATG skills. If Wlad did that against great fighters and won I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but he has to do it just to get past out of shape bums. For those resons I believe he's not high on the ATG list. I still put him well into my top 50. I believe he could mix it up with some of the best but I doubt there are many he'd have beaten.

That argument would be more credible if all those bums gave Wlad trouble or have seriously threatened Wlad's victory.

And they have not. Tell me one fight since 2006 when a bum ever gave him trouble?

What is the difference if he took his time and played with his opponent for nine rounds then KOing them in the 10th, and quickly blowing them out in the second? Both are very dominant.

Besides, Wlad has more skills than you attribute him. If he can win by leaning, clinching, pawing only, then there is nothing wrong with it.

However, he does not, and I'm sure you've watched enough fights of him to know that is true. Look at their opponents after ten rounds or so. His punches are not pawning, otherwise it wouldn't have done damage, and most of his opponents would have lasted the distance. His jab alone is so powerful that it is equivalent of fully committed powershots of other heavyweights. But I'm sure you know that. He can hook off a jab, and his handspeed is one of the fastest in the HW division, and he is very fluid for a guy his size. He had been described by some knowledgeble boxing experts as one of the most technically adept superheavyweights around. Are they all wrong?

He has other tools as well, but I'm sure you know it very well, you being very knowledgeble on Wlad.

Just because he does not use all his tools in every fight doesn't mean he doesn't have them.

Case in point. People during the past few years criticize Wlad for not having an uppercut. During the last fight, he floored Peter using an uppercut.

Where are the 'he has no uppercut' crowd now?

He always has it, if you watch his past fights, but if he feels its not neccessary to use, then he won't. But if he feels it would be useful, he'll use it.

His opponents were beaten because Wlad was simply better than them. And all of them were systematically destroyed over the course of the fight and all, bar one, was T/KO'd late.

And you can't criticize his choice of opponents. They were all either mandatories (Rahman, Peter, Austin, Thompson, Chambers), top ten guys (Chambers, Chagaev, Byrd, Thompson), or champions of other belts (Chagaev, Ibragimov). But I'm sure you'll laugh at the names I just gave you. But who should he have fought instead in the same time period? I'm sure you'll say that whoever he fought he would be a bum.

And all the fighters above not bums. Bums are fighters like Eric Crumble who hasn't won a fight. They are legitimate contenders. Laugh if you will, because I'm sure you'll dismiss them as worthless pieces of manure, but they are all top ten when Wlad fought them.

And he has ducked no one. On the contrary, he was the one who was ducked (e.g. Haye, Povetkin, Valuev)

But I'm sure you know that, you being very knowledgeble on Wlad.

The only weakness of Wlad is IMO, his chin, and his tendency to gas late. But he has learned to fight around to negate those disadvantages.

Now, is Wlad currently an ATG? No.
But can he be one? Yes.
Will he? Only time can tell.

He is, right now, top 15, top 20 at worst.

Name another HW in his era with a better resume?
And by his era I mean the fighters that are his peers not Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, etc
