I thought Esparragoza was better than Mcguigan who was on one of those polls.

Kelly was still a good fighter but definitely on the downside when he fought Naseem.

Is beating one opponent really justification for a ranking in the top 10 fighters on the planet? I'm not sure the rankings should work like that. Mayorga, Douglas, etc, may have pulled off great wins, but surely the p4p rankings should not be a kneejerk reaction chart, and should instead be a ranking of who is taking on and beating the best comp regularly over a relevant timescale?

Also, Mayorga may have had power, but he was never, ever one of the top 10 fighters in the sport, not in terms of ability, achievement, or anything else.

Neither did I. Doesn't mean I didn't respect, admire, rate and like him though. That was my point.

Yey but one major factor in this is that despite the loss Forrest was still an elite fighter and you cant have Forrest on their without having the guy the kod him and beat him again(to prove it was no fluke) higher. Mayorga was also coming off 2 wins over respected champ(at the time) Andrew"Six Heads"Lewis. Im not saying he automatically deserved a top 5 ranking but a top 10 ranking was fair.

Hatton..........biggest foul filled win against an over the hill Tszyu.I also think Jermaine Taylor was a one fighter wonder. 2 Controversial wins over Bhop, then 2 more against winky & spinks & finally gets exposed by Pavlik & Froch.

I would have dropped Forrest from the rankings after he was stopped by Mayorga. Forrest did not have the credentials to survive after that loss, he was only there on the basis of wins over one opponent as well (other than Mosley, his only win of any value was Vince Phillips, but Phillips had been knocked out by a relative journeyman not long before that so he was no great shake either). As I said, ascending the p4p rankings should be a gradual thing, where fighters work their way up as they prove themselves over time and with fights, the p4p rankings should not work the same way as actual organizations' rankings work where if you beat someone you automatically displace them.

Well than you must think todays group is pretty shallow cause most of the guys with great resumes are either washed up or on the slide(other than Manny,Mayweather) Even Marquez while still elite is on the down side. Other than Montiel the rest of the guys in their primes Martinez,Williams,Bradley,Ward,Nonito etc etc need some more wins. Cotto,Mosley,Hopkins all on the downside of their great careers.

Yes, I agree with all of this.

And FYI, even as a Hopkins fan I wouldn't have him anywhere near my thoughts for a p4p top 10 just now, haven't had for quite some time.

That's a good list. I have Wladimir Klitschko a lot higher than you though. I detest watching his fights, and really do not admire his over-cautious tactics, but you cannot dispute his extreme dominance over the last few years. The beatdown of Chagaev finally convinced me of his abilities.

If it wasnt for 2 (almost back to back ko losses) a few years back. He would easily be number 3. However i just cant erase the memory. Wish he could fight his brother:lol: Then the winner would be an automatic top 5 or possibly higher. Maybe im holding the lack of competition against him,but i still have a hard time ranking him over alot of those other guys.

I really, really cannot understand how anyone can place Timothy Bradley higher than Wladimir Klitschko in a p4p top 10 right now. Other than this one issue, we seem to be on roughly the same page though. :good
