No one likes the Maddalone matchup, yet its totally understandable and justified given the following two factors: 1) This will be Adamek's 5th heavyweight fight in 12 months (Please find me a single top HW with this kind of activity level) 2) Adamek is reportedly close to signing a contract to fight Vitali at MSG in March.
I'm an Adamek fan, and not a Haye fan. I don't subscribe to any of that "savior" hype crap and therefore hold them to the exact same standard. It's not that I'm setting championship expectations on Adamek; it's that he's presumably being aimed in the direction of world title contention and yet isn't knocking off other top contenders (with the exception of Arreola, who IMO never deserved to be a contender in the first place). As has been said, his activity is admirable and of course he's an underdog in general at heavyweight - but as a top contender it would be nice if he cleared out some of the other pretenders. So far, if the Maddalone fight goes through, he'll have eliminated only one pretender in 5 fights since moving up.
Like I said, I can't be too pissed at a guy doing what he's supposed to love, BOXING, OFTEN. It's like you gotta beg guys to get in the ring now. I just figured he wouldn't take a step back in comp.
Its not an interesting fight. I would probably sleep, when this will be in TV and I will watch the replay only. I didnt watch Bobby Gunn fight live too. Adamek is a HW for less than 11 months. It would be his 5th fight in a short period and he is in talks with Vitali for fighting in March. I believe that he is justified. Whats more, while beating Arreola, he won the contender status in the HW division and big TV stations in USA are interested in his fight against top dogs. As I remember, there were talks about Adamek and Peter fight on HBO in December, but since Peter chose to fight Wladimir, there was no opponent for Adamek that TV stations were interested in this year.
seems haye is not the only one fighting very fringe fighters. Certain amount of hyporcracy with Adamek fans... For him he is "just keeping busy".
Dont you think after 12 rounds wars againts Arreola and Grant, Adamek should get a softer fight (or stay inactive)? Adamek and Haye move in different dimensions. Haye having rest-camp (5 months) done decided to take a 'stay busy fight'...
It would be nice if we see Wlad-Adamek in December. But if not its ok. I think its very likely we will see a Klitschko (whoever)-Adamek fight within the first half of 2011.
They can say it's "keeping busy" because he's actually keeping busy by fighting often. If he had, say, Haye's inactivity level, the Maddalone fight would be seen in a much harsher light. Personally, I like how he wants to stay active, against *anybody*. As long as he fights top fighters at least 2x per year in between, nobody has a valid reason to complain about his choice of opponents the rest of the year.
I think sometimes people forget how shallow the heavyweight division is right now when they complain about boxers not taking big names. WHAT big names? In the current top 10, the only fighter who is either not injured, not in line for a mandatory shot (and therefore avoiding fights that would derail it), or not just coming off a fight is Eddie Chambers.
Adamek still grews to heayvyweight shoes you have to remember that. It's better that he is building his experience at ring and not sitting on his ass and eating whoopers. And who has Adamek to fight? He targets Klitscho's and Haye. Haye won't fight him because he likes easy fights and easy money. I don't know is Adamek after 4 HW fights is ready for Klitschko's. How can you blame a top fighter that he fights 4 times a year? I don't see any top 10 heavies except Solis that want to fight him right now. Adamek doesn't have a belt and don't guarantees paydays like Haye or K brothers and he is a high risk fighter - ask Arreola.
If Haye fights once a year against top 5 heavy it's alright. If he fights 4 times and only one of them is top 5 or even top 10 - alright. But when he fights once a year against a fringe contender or a past prime well known fighter - it isn't alright.
The Adamek huggers who said he beat Grant easily are now saying he can take the Maddalone fight because he's coming off a tough fight with Grant. The truth is that Adamek ain't that good at heavy.
Well a fight with a Klitschko seems to be more and more likely. Right after the Peter fight Steward was talking about Adamek as a likely next opponent, and it makes sense too, since Adamek is ranked 1 by the WBO. Since this is the case I have no problem with him fighting Maddalone, only thing I don't like about it is that I don't think it does anything for him, other then earn him some easy cash. I honestly would like to see the Klitschkos both dissapear from the HW scene. I like them both, they are both good people, and very good top notch athletes, but they ruin the HW scene. Things would be much more exciting/interesting/competitive if they werent around. They are simply too big, and too good for everyone else out there.
