How funny (business) life can be: Floyd Mayweather Jr. managed to make Top Rank and Golden Boy go to war once more, then walked away leaving Todd DuBoeuf and Richard Schaefer like "WTF"? Well, there's absolutely no reason for bad blood between the two giants now, in fact, it's time to put a Top Rank - Golden Boy Truce Card together! The two wealthiest and healthiest stables have plenty of talent, and some of them are expected to meet anyway, so how about putting a 3-fight-televised World Championshop Boxing card together? Blue Team: TOP RANK! - Vanes Marirosyan, unbeaten top 154lbs contender - Alfonso Gomez, former 147lbs world-title challenger - Yuriorkis Gamboa, unified 126lbs champion Red Team: GOLDEN BOY! - Erislandy Lara, unbeaten 154lbs contender - Saul Alvarez, 20 year-old rising WW star - Chris John, World Featherweight Champion, unbeaten in 45 fights THE TOP RANK - GOLDEN BOY TRUCE CARD: Co-feature no1: Vanes Martirosyan vs. Erislandy Lara 154lbs title eliminator - the trash talking part is over, Vanes and Lara both wanna fight and go for a world title right after. Vanes claims Lara is moving too fast and will end up crushing into a wall. Lara asks him to try to be that wall. It has to happen! Co-feature no2: Saul Alvarez vs. Alfonso Gomez 147lbs title eliminator - Gomez, The Contender star and former world title challenger is coming off a career-best win over Jose Luis Castillo, at 29, still has a lot of hunger and an exciting style. Canelo is a Mexican phenomenon but still a bit green and not without mistakes. For a sellout and a top position at welterweight, they must meet in the ring! Main event: Chris John vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa for the World Featherweight Championship - The true FW champion, Chris John hasn't fought over a year due to health issues, but as Gamboa recently added the IBF belt to his regular WBA, John (champion in recess) now must meet the exciting Cuban to have only one WBA 126lbs champion. John's slick defense & countering vs. Gamboa's all-out assault, this is the true featherweight showdown A bit expensive maybe, but this card is certainly not impossible to make (especially with my advice being free), and this show could settle the disputes between the two promotional giants. So what are you guys waiting for?
Gomez, seriously? He's going to get killed by Alvarez. They should have put Clottey up to face Alvarez. The other two fights are good though.
HBO has a restraining order against Clottey and a special filter that can photoshop Clottey out from the screen in real-time. Gomez is not that bad, he also beat Soto-Karass clearly and it's a question whether Canelo is that good. This fight is a genuine ticket seller and a pretty damn exciting clash of styles.
Canelo looks like he is setting up shop at 154 anyway. Doubt we will see him fight again at 147 Other than that, I'm all for a truce card. Too many great potential matchups for those two boneheaded organizations not to work together.
Top Rank is interested in Gamboa-John! Carl Moretti of TR says: "We have no problem fighting the guy, Chris John, but you need a date to fight him on. So, that's really the thing that we're looking at is when is the next time that Gamboa could be on HBO. I think that would determine a little bit more what our position would be on Chris John. It's absolutely a fight that we would entertain. But for Gamboa and John, we're actually waiting for the WBA to give us some resolution as to timing. We'd love to fight Chris John."
John will pose all sorts of problems for Gamboa. I like this fight. I don't expect a great spectacle, but someone's 0 is going to go and that's always exciting.
I dont understand how it would be expensive. I understand what you are saying but its sad it has to be like this. Those are all young prospect who really shouldnt be demanding anything above half a mil.
