Jesus H I've never actually seen this fight but how on earth did Holmes get up after that against Shavers! What a chin.

Spinks would've been destroyed by Klitschko, Holmes was dragging around a beer belly for 15 rounds and still nearly pulled out a decision against him. Cooney was no world beater either, he had a great left hook and not much else.

It's the sad truth. The heavyweight division sucks.

i was in detroit a few months agoat knonk gy working out a sparring some of the amateurs they had there, and then Wlad showed up there i guess for training camp or maybe just for a workout with steward, but anyways, he wanted to get some sparring in, so he starting sparring some of the big dudes there and i guess manny saw me continually standing there watching (but who wouldnt?) so he asked if i wanted to spar Wlad, and of course i jumped at the opportunity, as i've never sparred with a pro, much less a champion, around someone of Wlad's caliber, but yea, Manny told me he would just work with me and to just try my hardest, so we started and he moves around alot more in sparring than he does in his fights, and his jab felt like most of guys' that i spar haymakers, but yea, i throw a jab to his midsection then throw an overhand right to his chin and he back up to the ropes! i was saying to myself damn, i 'm 165 pounds, this guy's chin is glass!

To even mention Klitchkos jab in the breath of Holmes` jab is blasphemy... Here`s the difference, Larry went out behind his puishing jab looking to do damage. He was an agressive boxer/puncher. Klitchko ( slowly ) disects his overmatched opponents. Larry was a true ring general, Klithvko doesn`t even come close. Most importantly, I actually enjoyed watching Holmes do his work ! I think most people would agree that it was a lot more enjoyable watching Holmes than Klitchko...

I really don't understand your thinking. I'd say there are far more differences between the two fighters than similarities. Plus the fact that Holmes was far better.

The punch actually knocked Holmes out but he went down so hard, it woke him up.

Klitschko is robotic compared to Holmes.

There are some definite similarities between the two. They both have good jabs and straight right hands, and they both like to box at distance. But they did bring a different style to the ring.

    Agree with this.

You only gotta look at Wlad on the backfoot against Peter 1, where he looks disorganized and displays sloppy footwork, then take Larry Holmes fight with Shavers and see him comfortable he was on the backfoot to know there totally different, infact the only similarity, is that both use the jab consistently.

Wlad has no defense when you get past his offense, which is not too hot in itself, his offense is a jab, and a 1 2, he is not even a 1 2 3 fighter, Holmes had a counter uppercut, counter right hand when you got inside his range, Wlad has a bear hug.

Who did Holmes fight that was 'great' while he was champion? Spinks? That is about it. I know he got the title from Norton but outside of those 2 his championship run was loaded with average to below average contenders.

i never said that wlad wouldn't beat spinks.. what i did say though, was that spinks was better than most, if not all of wlad's opponents.

out of all of wlad's opponents, who do you think was better than spinks?
