Which fighters do you think would be elevated to all time great status if they had a muich better punch? I thought about Paullie Malignaggi for a second but I don't think he'd be an all time great even with punching power. But he absolutely would be one of the better fighters of his era.
Dio Hurtado. He had some power (especially compared to a Malignaggi) but a little boost in that category would have put him over the top, IMO. He definitely had the natural physical talent and the fundamental skills, and - despite what some may think - a pretty good chin, in his prime.
At his best, he was hell without it. Ditto Marcos Geraldo. Take away Marciano's power, and you have...Vito Antuofermo.
It would dramatically change the complexion of the first fight with Marquez - not to mention Campbell, Freitas, etc. If you take his last eight fights and change the results to "Diaz KO_ (insert early or middle round)" - which is not that huge a stretch if you give him legitimate one-punch power - that starts to look like an ATG resume.
Well, Hagler was schooling him big time and the Hag had such a dynamite chin and all, but Hamsho SURE would have gotten Marv's attention had he had just a "wee bit" more power. As it was, his punches were like wet cotton balls..
that's possible i guess. the work he did on marquez in the early rounds of the first fight would have paid much bigger dividends in that case. and a win over Marquez would be huge. but honestly, against Campbell, it's not like he was landing punches that had no effect, he was just getting schooled. not sure if he has an alltime great style even with a better punch. all time greats dont get schooled by Nate Campbells in my opinion.
