A question about Margarito's handwraps (and discussing the whole case again)

From what I've heard they don't make a difference in the beginning but with time they swell and get heavy absorbing the sweat from the fighter's hands.

How can they get heavier if nothing else is added to the glove and the sweat would be there anyway?

The two thin pads were far too light to add sufficient weight to contribute any major damage to his opponent. If it was really plaster of paris then it would just crumble when impacted because it was far too thin to have any structural strength.

Resto used wraps completely dipped in plaster(forming a cast) which added a lot of extra weight to his punches but because of the hardness of the wrap and the missing padding in the knuckle areas of his gloves, he ended up destroying his hands. You could see him wincing when he shook hands with people.

Capetillo is clearly one of the dumbest trainers in the sport for adding something which had little effective value and against the most eagle eyed trainer in the sport - Nazim Richardson.

it was wrong and illegal for capetillo to of done that, but it wouldn't of meant ****...people in here like to twist **** and make it seem like if he really did have brass knuckles in his wraps...hahahahahahaah

even having orange juice would be illegal :good because nothing, i mean nothing is allowed in the wraps...everything has to be fresh :good

Although Margarito might have been stylystically a bad match-up for Cotto, I don't quite believe he would win fair and square. Maybe he would not end up KOed but comfy UD for Miguel. It looked surreal, this beatdown. Watching the fight live one wondered how the hell did Cotto fold down so badly. It didn't seem that the punishment he was receiving was enough to make him such a helpless bloody pulp.

 

I disagree with the last part. I saw it building and building and thought the ending was inevitable by round 8 or so. Miguel didn't want to be in that ring anymore.

Without the pads, Margo wouldn't have done as much damage and the late rounds would have resembled the first 6 to a comfy UD for Miguel.

 

To me it seemed like the punches were doing more damage than they 'should', like Margarito was signifficantly heavier. It looked like Cotto was bleeding from EARS.

 

I'm no professional fighter and won't claim to be. But, I've worked out in Kenpo and boxning gyms for years. I'll wrap my hands tomorrow. Once, the gym was out of the Everlast cotton wraps I usually wear so I picked up another brand and could tell the difference immediately.

If a guy who works out a couple of days a week can tell what's on his hands, so could Margarito.
