I used to say that he has no chance, but after seeing Sam Peter's pathetic attempt at bobbing and weaving manage to slip a few of those jabs in round 1, I now give Frazier a small chance...very small. I still feel that a jumbo sized power puncher will always get the best of Frazier...can't get the Foreman fight out of my mind.
Frazier would have little to no chance. He'd be punched around like a rubber doll and be knocked out in a couple of rounds. Bar a lucky punch he wouldn't land a meaningful hand on Wlad. Two ways to win for Frazier * Wlad injures himself, like dislocating his knee * Frazier, from an extremely crouched position from right underneath Wlad, jumps up like an NBA superstar going for a slam dunk, landing a gigantic left hook right on the tip of Wlad's chin With the above in mind, I think a prime Frazier would win 5-7 fights out of 100 if he stepped in the ring with today's Wlad. And that's being generous.
No ways would Wlad take the fight to Frazier like Foreman did -- Wlad is so scared of getting tagged its not funny -- Frazier was great to the body as well but a big factor would be how much "holding and leaning on the ref. would allow"
If Wlad is not allowed to hold, then that changes things significantly. I assume that he'd be allowed to hold all he wants, because...well, he seems to be allowed to hold and lean all he wants.
This thread is scary. How people even give Vlad a chance is beyond any kind of real common sense. Joe was a really good boxer, very good defence and was beaten by two of the greatest heavies of all time. Vlad doesnt have the strongest chin , struggles with a quick pace and his jab is pawing to say the least. Joe would move underneath Vlads' punches , move him into angles he is not comfortable with , hurt him with body shots and really hurt him. We have to remember the Klitchko brothers have only lived in this era because it is so poor. In the 90's Riddick Bowe and Lennox Lewis would have dealt with them In the 80's Tyson would have been able to fight both on the same night. In the 70's please , they would have both just played chess.
Frazier is the single most overrated boxer that I find in most people's HW TOP 20. Who the hell has this guy ever beat? What's his level of performance consistency? Whenever he faced top competition he folded bar his one-time win over Ali. If Frazier is an ATG, why aren't McCall or Rahman with their wins over Lewis? LOL Now please enlighten me: when did Frazier ever "murder" a top HW? Never. When did Frazier ever "murder" a HW as talented, powerful and big as Wlad? Not a single time. Not even close. Frazier was good at "murdering" 185+ lbs LHWs that had no reach nor weight advantage. Foreman bounced Joe around the ring like he was made out of cardboard. Not only did Big George do that once, he did it twice and he barely broke a sweat. Wlad would be no different.
Does the Name Muhammad Ali ring a bell? That's fairly impressive. (I actually do agree he's a bit overrated, but I think you are underating him)
I really disagree with the "If you win against a great fighter that makes you a great fighter, completely disregarding the rest of your career". By that definition guys like McCall and Rahman are greats just because they beat Lewis. What about Young who knocked down and beat Foreman? The matter of the fact is Frazier has nothing to show for other than winning one out of three against Ali. I am not at all impressed.
I'd favour Wlad he has proved that he is no longer the same fighter that lost to Brewster, Purrity and Sanders. But it wouldn't be all in Wlad's favour he is no longer aggressive enough to take Frazier apart early, this fight would go in to the later rounds as a lot of Wlad's fights have been recently. While a long fight favours Wlad to win on points it also means Frazier's relentless pressure and stamina will give him opportunities later on in the fight. I would favour Wlad to win a tough fight on points.
I am a Wlad fan but you have to go with Joe at this point. Smokin Joe's high pressure style is just what the doctor ordered to throw Klit of his gameplan. In a couple of more years, when Wlad is done, we can talk again. But right now, Joe Frazier.
the question should be does wlad have a chance smokin joe was a machine, he would of ripped through wlads defence
