Jimmy Young by KO if he lands this shot: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QflZUi7kxDE[/ame] Larry was often vulnerable to right hand punchers, so if Young lands this shot, it's over. Then again, I suppose since Larry has fantastic recuperative abilities, he might make the distance, but he would've been beaten to a pulp.
Because Jimmy came out on the wrong end of back to back decisions against Ocasio, so Jaws got the shot. Later, it looked like things might go Jimmy's way against Cooney, then Gerry's right tore his face wide open. Had Young pulled off the win there, I've no doubt he gets a shot at Holmes.
He WAS countering Cooney well but then again he was taking hook after hook. It's too bad, too, because he was in good shape for that fight compared to his other later fights. he was ready to win.
Tommy did you ever see any of the Young/Occasio fights and if so how were they. Were they sad to look at?
yeah i have those fights. young came in out of shape and uninterested. he lost a wide decision. Young pulled his trunks down for whatever reason in the middle of the action, and the ref seperated the two of them to get Young to pull his pants up
Young was no puncher, and that droppage of Foreman down in Rico back in '77 was not truly clean... Foreman was already gased, weakened, fatigued by heat and slightly off-balance when Young tagged and dropped Foreman in that clip... I've gone through this 100 X already... :deal MR.BILL:hat
Lol, I figured he was unfocused. He didn't look too bad against Dokes but that's the only Young fight post-Norton that he looked good-okay in. I saw a clip of the Cooney fight and he would have his moments but it was bad to watch later on especially for me being a Young fan.
Yes he was. Why do you think he was gased? He was getting hit by young all night and was getting nailed by jabs and right hands the whole time. he was lucky he got up from that overhand right. A knockdown can't just be being gased, weakened, and fatigued can't equal a knockdown. a punch has to be in there. That overhand right did the job. Well, he was doing good in the cooney fight until he got cut.. Then he just didn't see the punches coming and his corner stopped it on cuts.
All I have seen of the Cooney-Young fight is this but then again, a highlight doesn't always tell the tale for the whole fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTveHWpyGCQ[/ame]
Right there it just looks like Cooney is teeing off on young heh but there are times where young counters. he just got cut so he didnt see the punches coming so he couldn't counter. as you can see he's taking the punches pretty well. he wasn't about to get knocked out or anything like that.
Exactly like I said earlier, highlights don't tell the whole tale for the whole fight. Young was taking big punches and his defensive skills weren't bad before the cut from what I saw in the video.
