Solo Boxeo Tecate: Jose Navarro vs. Nestor Rocha RBR

Round 1

The parking lot is hopping! So is Navarro as he begins to play matador with his jab. Rocha flaps his wings and is very aggressive but not landing much. Navarro gets a little greedy and continues a combination that is begun as a counter and Rocha rips him with a couple of shots while he's got both arms in flux. Navarro doesn't have the hand speed for that, he needs to stay tight and economical. Rocha throws a couple of fat punches, and lands one to the body. Navarro goes back to his jab.

Round 2

Navarro is trying to slip and bang while Rocha pressures him predictably but Rocha is finding his chin with the right hand on the way in. Navarro fights with his right hand trapped and is able to jab Rocha off of him and command a moment's respect. Rocha then goes right back on the hunt. The pressure from Rocha is constant and is clearly getting Navarro a bit off his game, and he has a mouse under one eye already. Vicious body punches by Rocha, landing well from mid range. Navarro times him with a counter uppercut but isn't able to hold him off with anything.

Round 3

Navarro is moving his upper body well and throwing nice short combos but is failing to fully protect his face when he's done and as a result Rocha is answering with one harder and more damaging shot for every couple that Navarro lands. Navarro's eyes both look very puffy. Rocha throws a NASTY right hand to the body that has Navarro wincing but he stays up only to take a follow-up right in the teeth.

Round 4

Rocha menacing, throwing to the body and not trying to headhunt on the inside which is sparing him a lot of the counters he was getting caught with before. Navarro continues to rely on his fundamentals and flashy upper-body defense and impressively slips some shots but is getting outfought and bullied. Rocha has earmuffs on as he pushes Navarro back and drives spears into his body.

 

Round 5

Navarro continues to find his jab and right hand melting off an unimpressed Rocha like snowflakes. A perfect counter right hand lands, with all Navarro's power behind it and Rocha doesn't blink. Meanwhile Rocha is inching into range and throwing pendulums to the body.

 

Round 6

Rocha has now assumed counter duty, as Navarro tries to swarm him with preemptive strikes but Rocha is still hitting him with uppercuts and hard corkscrews to the body and eventually gets Navarro to back off and ultimately give ground again. Rocha is now blocking more shots and being selective with his, going for power over volume. Navarro lands a straight right hand that doesn't make a dent and Rocha loops one of his own that takes Navarro's balance away momentarily.

 

Round 7

Rocha's fists burn skid marks in the air as he curves them over and over into either side of Navarro. The hands are coming down and Navarro is open to some headshots, and Rocha obliges with some long uppercuts. Navarro sticks his right hand out but isn't snapping it as a punch so much as just trying to hold Rocha back. Rocha is starting to close the distance and land short punches to the face of Navarro on the inside.

 

Round 8

Rocha lands a 3-2 to set the tone. Navarro keeps throwing jabs with straight rights or uppercuts behind them but all have the goal of merely slowing or at least blinding Rocha, and are not having the desired effect. Rocha stalks and waits for Navarro to get nervous enough to jab and then counters over it with his own 1-2 or a series of body shots. Horrible left hooks land on Navarro's liver but he hangs in there to the bitter end of a gruesome thrashing.

The flesh under Navarro's right eye looks like a full water balloon.

I gave Rocha every round since the 1st.

 

There's no ****** business in California.

79-73 unanimously for Nestor Rocha.

 

Shot is a fair assessment with his inability to control space with his boxing for more than a couple of minutes anymore, but his chin still isn't anything to sneeze at to take a sustained beating like that for so many rounds. He was never down.

Luis Ramos Jr. in a developmental step backward against professional opponent John Figueroa.

 

Round 1

Ramos is already confusing Figueroa a little just by circling slowly left and cranking out his southpaw jab. Uppercuts land as Ramos turns the left side of his body in toward Figueroa. Ramos begins to lead with the right as Figueroa gets the hint that he's outmatched in speed and opts to duck and retreat. A lead right from Figueroa comes nowhere close to landing. Neither does a lazy jab. 1-2 lands for Ramos. Big right hook to the body by Ramos.
