The Reputation of Lennox Lewis?

I am a huge Lewis fan and i think the reasib his reputation improves is because people realise what we have lost. He is the most recent ATG HW and that helps a lot of people see him as the great champ he was. H2H best too imo.

 

1. Why would he be financially better off fighting in England than North America which is supposed to be where all the best boxing fans and fighters are????

2. Lennox was born in Britain and always saw himself as British.

 

Financial or not he still fought as a Brit, won hos world titles as a Brit and was born in this country. Those 3 reasons are good enough IMHO for him to be regarded as a Brit.

Yep, he grew up in Canada and fought for them as an amateur but with not being born there and both parents not being from there Canada just happened to be where his was located during those years.

What about Bob Fitzsimmons?

 

He always said he felt British and not Canadian .

 

I agree the reasons for concentrating on the Brit angle were probably financial but I think thats largely irrelevent to the argument over his nationality. The facts are still the facts no matter what the reasons behind them.

 

He was born in Britain and moved to Canada when he was 12...moved back when he turned pro. Whats your point? Winding people up on a saturday morning?? nice one.

 

Why did he stand to make more money as a British fighter?

Look in the world we are in today people can be "multi national". My dad was born and raised in Portugal, my mum was born and raised in Finland. I was born in France. I moved to England when I was 2 and I see myself as English first and foremost but am proud of my routes.

Some people in my situation would see themselves as Portuguese, Finnish or French. Its up to them.

Lennox was clearly proud of his Canadian routes but he saw himself as British first and foremost.
