Is the Mag 7 "template" the way forward for Brit PPV boxing?

He was unlucky with the Backlin and Rhodes pull outs, I think the PPV show was saved with the Hall-Konecy fight. Brook-Jennings didn't live up to expectations.

It kept my undivided attention for 5+ hours, I can't have any complaints.

At least we're not American, $50 for Mosley-Mora

I think so. I felt I got more value for my money from this card than I did from theHatton-Pacquiao PPV.

Out of the 7 fights all but the DeGale and Macklin fights could have being great main events on their own for a regular Sky show. At the moment it is only Warren who can put together a great card like this, the other promoters don't have the finances/stables to do so. However, I am sure if Maloney and Hatton or even Hennessy got together they could put on a quality card. I would like to see more co-promotions between our top promoters. That would help the sport.

Some people however won't be happy and will always find something to complain about. That's their problem.

I turned that fight off after the first round went into a short depression then read the result online. couldn't watch. Couldn't believe he' d survived until the end of the second round rewound then watched him get KO'd

 

It just seems to me that we are sliding down and down the scale as far as what fights are charged for on PPV goes.

I'm not quite s sure where they can go with it next, PPV for UK regional champions?

Let's face it, it's just a premise for charging PPV for Euro title fights, British title fights and Commonwealth fights.

 

In terms of the whole card yeah. The UK leg was McDermott-Williams which was decent, Jamie Moore versus an overmatched opponent and Munroe versus Afrobum. Not really that great tbh and none of the fights were entertaining.

The Hatton-Pac undercard was rubbish. Likes of Korobov, Lara and Jacobs against soft opponents and then Soto in a **** fight. Out of the entire undercard from two countries only McDermott-Williams was a competitive fight.

Then obviously Pac blew out Hatton. Afterwards I was wondering why I paid for it when I could have watched it online.

Tonight I enjoyed every fight apart from the Macklin one. Before I was wondering whether I could pay attention to the card for 5/6 hours but all the fights were intriguing and entertaining. How much greater would it have being if we had Macklin-Barker on top of the other 6 fights?!

 

I think it is a great format. Without huge stars you can afford to stack the bill economically. And I think tonight shows it has worked, there was a lot of anticipation and excitement surrounding all the fights. Could have been even better of course if not for pull outs. Thats the only downside of it, its always going to need a fair amount of luck to get all the fights on.

It could be the way forward, one great fight on paper can always disapoint and with a shoddy undercard it amounts to a fairly average viewing. There is no way 7 fights are going to fail and we saw that tonight. Brook/Jennings and DeGale/Dilks was a damp squib but the others more than made up for it.

 

I don't want to revisit that fight night again . Thanks for the memory's.

I recorded it and didn't start watching until half seven. Was able to forward through breaks and some of the studio wiffle all the way until Enzo fought

We got good fights for £15. The Yanks pay $50 for HBO PPVs including tonights card, JCC jr cards are like $40. Adamek-Grant with a crap undercard was $25.

At least the stuff we got on PPV isn't utter tosh. It may not all be world level stuff but they're good quality match ups.

 

When I joined this forum, just a few years ago, charging PPV for all bar the most tasty of World Title fights was widely frowned upon. Any mention of charging PPV for this would have been torn apart, in fact it would have been unthinkable.

I mean, Calzaghe vs Lacy was on terrestrial TV, Hopkins vs Joe on Setanta. Calzaghe never had a PPV fight in his whole career!!

Now just a couple of years later people are clapping at the fact that Euro and British title fights are on PPV.

Nope not for me thanks and no wonder the sport is eating itself.

I don't know, my mates like boxing and they didn't even know it was on and to be honest it dragged on a bit for me, yes the Cleverly and Hall fights were good but I just wasnt excited enough about half the people on it. And Enzo Mac main event? Very surprised. Definitely not the future for me sorry! Still enjoyed it, particulary first 3 or 4 fights.

 

You must have a pretty poor attention span if that dragged on. There were quite a few early stoppages. And God...its boxing. How can you be on a boxing forum and get bored of a few hours of boxing none of which was particularly boring until we got to Macklin.
