Is the Mag 7 "template" the way forward for Brit PPV boxing?

The Macklin fight was the most boring of the night. Thankfully they tossed it in.

 

On a positive note, I'd say it does possibly make it easier for people/the public to keep a loose track of a chunk of the British boxing scene, as a bit of it is consolidated in one place here. It may drag an outside interest back into the sport... if they paid the PPV of course.

 

The ads part is a joke but Warren is no fool and will take the advertisers money from them on top of the PPV buys. I think the ads would bring the PPV back to break even if he is lucky but near enough what 6 hours of boxing the ad revenue must of been huge for Warren. I am against ads if you pay a PPV fee if you are to notice other PPV sports Sky show do any of them take adds during it I dont think they do.

 

I never pay for PPV's since I don't have the option, but I definitely would if I could watch it on the big screen in HD.

The two types of PPV I'd pay for are the really top quality fights. e.g. David Haye v Wlad Klitschko. I don't so much worry about the undercards on a fight like that, its a must see regardless.

And I would probably also pay for a PPV like this. Yes its all British and European, thats the fact of the matter, and none of them on their own stand as anything like PPV quality. But if you can get 4/5 genuine pick em fights and some good talents on the show I'd be a sucker for that. It's too much boxing to pass up on.

What I don't like are the middling bull**** type of PPVs. Khan/Prescott and stuff of that ilk.

not his fault Barker pulled out otherwise we would have had a beltin main event too

puttin together a ppv like this 3 times a year is a great idea

far better than the crap served up usually, khan vs bum and a load of overmatched fights

this could very well be the future, and i for one enjoyed it

That had crossed my mind as well. Kind of like the UFC does with their fighters, as a casual fan you don't have to make that much of an effort to keep track of whats going on. Just tune into 4-6 PPVs a year and you should be reasonably on top of who's who.

Warren deserves major props for tonights show, I had 6 mates who are only casual fans round to watch it and they all really enjoyed the show. Hopefully this December 11th mega card comes to fruition.

 

Let's see what the buyrate was first. Can't help but feel it failed to reach beyond hardcore fans, even though it was a better overall show than most PPVs.

 

Great show...most ppv's leave you feeling so unfufilled. Tonight was quality.

Cant argue with the card at all but long term success will really depend how many bought it. Not sure my mates who are casual boxing fans would have bought it. If people are sophisticated enough to trawl the internet for boxing news they know where to watch it for free. I watched it on a quality stream (only way to see it as I was abroad).

Was it me or did the crowd seem dead throughout it though? A lot of people there but just seemed flat to me.

 

I wish they would follow this template on both sides of the Atlantic.

The last two HBO PPV's were great and neither had a very good main event (Juan Diaz vs. Juan Manuel Marquez & Sergio Mora vs. Shane Mosley).

Just stack up the cards with talented guys matched competitively and to hell with the big names!

 

I agree with the general sentiments.

For me it was the best value for money PPV I've bought. Better than any of the Hatton/Haye/Khan ones, where all the money is spent on the main event and nothing on the undercard.

Obviously you can't guarantee that each show will be as good to watch as that one, but by selecting the fighters carefully there can be a bit of quality control.

What we don't want is another scenario where ****ing Prizefighter is the British undercard for an equally bad promotion in the States.

Hopefully there'll be a sea change from the ''world title fights automatically being PPV'' policy, or the introduction of a minimum standard undercard for such a show to be on box office.

I've had some real rants about Sky before but no real complaints from me in the new season, they are getting an awful lot more right than they did previously. Long may it continue.
