Nice list Sam, except I would've gone Mr. T ahead of Rocky Graziano and Million Dollar Baby ahead of Danny Williams.

Easy really if you think about it - I think the guys above him would've beat him??? That's all there is to it - it doesn't really affect things one iota - 6-10 could have been all people Ali beat "emphatically" but it means jack if I think 1-4 beat him anyway???

PS - Ali did in no way beat Liston "emphatically"??? I actually think both their fights were not on the level so that clouds things somewhat - also Ali beat Foreman yes - and ATG great performance it was but not what I would call "emphatic"?? What fight were you watching - that was opne of the most competitive fights ever - that's why it was such a good fight - two great fighters fighting to the death - not emphatic - Frazier beat Ali pretty emphatically and look where I placed him??? Go figure

Hello NIcky P, I just think that Rahman and McCall were just better fighters than Sanders and especially so with Rahman i think Rahman hit Lewis with one of the best single punches ever thrown in heavyweight history so I can't penalise Lewis as much as I do Vlad because I think Vlad just looked terrible and flimsy against Sanders and Sanders didn't hit in with anywhere near as good a punch as Rahman nailed Lewis with - Vlad just has a very shaky chin - and he still does to this day he fights like it to - that fight against Sam Peter the other day was just terrible - he spent about 90% grabbing and clinching in desperation because he really doesn't know how to fight - he literally throws one punch (any punch) and then grabs before anything else can happen - he's a poor excuse for a champion based on that performance alone - and to think some people think that was one of his better fights!!???

Marciano is my favourite yes - but because I just think he beats everyone else for whatever reason he just gives me that impression

On Frazier yes - he was a great fighter - and yes he beat Ali when Ali was 29 - he essentially beat Ali as close to anyone beat Ali in his prime but he also got beat twice by Ali and twice by Foreman and I think was a bit preditable and a bit of a sitting duck when he got tagged

I thought it was pretty much in line with your own Tommy?? Apart from the obvious crime of having Marciano at number one of course - but I thought the order was not to far off your own?? Maybe I'm wrong - but anyway feel free to pick it apart - you can't beat a good argument about the greats - we all love great fights don't we :hey:bbb come on hit me with a few jabs....

ok, now that the familiarities are out of the way. I gotta really question you saying Rahman throwing the single greatest punch in heavyweight history. How do you know that? How are you gauging that? That's like saying that Antonio Tarver threw the single greatest punch in Lightheavyweight history when he ko'ed Jones. I look at it as the better fighter slipped up. These are boxers, if you land a punch on a sweet spot that's it, the fights over. The fact that Lennox allowed these 2 average heavyweights to KO him should take away from his legacy and drop him down some notches. Definately below frazier. Frazier lost only to 2 of the greatest ever! Lennox lost to some randoms. Neither one of those guys have ever beaten any other good fighters. Maybe McCall beating Akinwande counts but whatever. Rahmans, McCalls, and Sanders's should not be beating fighters who are seen as ATG!

Ok, and The Thrilla in Manilla was either man's fight. Ali collapsed in the ring when Joe's corner stopped the fight. Yeah, Ali got the win but that's about as close as fights come. The 2nd Ali-Frazier turned into a hold fest by Ali. Frazier's style is beautiful, perpetual motion at it's finest. There was nothing more predictable about his style than almost anyone elses. Willie Pep is gonna hit and run, Hearns is always looking to set up that big right, Foreman will punch you till you die, and Frazier is gonna come at you with constant head movement and devastating hooks.

The fact that Ali (the fastest HW ever!) was tagging Joe doesnt mean he was a sitting duck. Foreman did some brutal stuff to Joe, but i think that may have been a case of just having figured out certain things to do to a shorter fighter.

If my main point isn't clear, it's this.... Frazier only lost to 2 fighters who were each all time greats. 1 of them being universally recognized (save personal favorites lists) as the greatest heavyweight ever which he also defeated. Lennox lost to 2 B level fighters by KO. Therefore he ...... yada yada, you get the point.

Ali did beat Liston emphatically. He won 5 out of 6 rounds first time then knocked him out next time. Pretty ****ing emphatic. He also won at least 5 of the 8 against big George, then knocked him out too. Emphatic.

The point being I think both Liston fights were bogus anyway so I don't think he 'beat' Liston anyway really - and the Foreman match I don't think they really come much more competetive than that one - Ali was taking some serious serious pummelling from George - he did incredible to survive the murderous beating around the body and absorbed some massive shots to the head and then took all the steam out of George by letting George punch himself out and then toppled the exhausted hulk in the 8th - it was one of the best fights I've ever seen between to great fighters battling it out - it was in no way emphatic for Ali - saying he won 5 out of the 8 rounds (if he even did - your opinion not mine) then just quoting stats does nothing to describe the competetiveness of that fight. Have you even seen the fight???

george foreman is a raw talent and yes I rate him (check post #57) but young foremans stock is based entirely on geting a shop worn champ to beat and dispatching a nervous norton who jose luis ramirez had KO'd. ali still beat the worlds best heavyweight in 1974 to get the title but in any other era a good champion would turn away an ex champ who won the title 10 years ago. george had the talent but was simply raw and not the finished article by some stretch. ali beat a raw guy to win back the title.

Pretty awesome list there BRB :good good to see the Brockton Strong Boy so high - you have Lennox very high - you must be big on Lewis - I wish he were still around today - just out of interest which Lewis was the best do you think?? I will go to my grave thinking the Lewis that beat Razor Ruddock was the best version - he would've been competetive with any heavyweight in history - he would have Vlad and Vit for breakfast IMO

Appreciate it. Can't argue w/ Razor Ruddock. I would say Rahman II just because he knew how it felt to lose and was more mature and driven.

I would bet him against all hws sans Wlad and Vitali.

Those 3 are very high on my h2h.
