Someone should mention that Ali ended on his feet after fighting Sonny Liston twice, Floyd Patterson twice, Earnie Shavers AND George Foreman, Joe Frazier three times, Ken Norton three times, Ron lyle, Joe Bugner twice, Mac Foster, George Chuvalo twice, Oscar Bonavena, Cleveland Williams and...I can even go on. It's insane.
Hagler and McCall have two of the best chins ever. Today - Hopkins, Mosley, Toney immediately come to mind. Pacquiao and Kessler deserve a mention too.
Great call. He took so many enormous flush shots to the head and body from Gatti, it's hard to believe. Speaking of, Gatti had a hell of a chin/recuperative ability. Considering he had a smaller frame than Ward.
Jesus, how did I not mention Hagler and McCall?! Yeah, me too. Fortunately for Super's knuckles, he could rarely get past the jab. They said Ali's jab was like kryptonite for him.
Nothing to be ashamed of...even with the ability to slow down time, Superman would have trouble getting past Ali's jab.
Yeah, he did try to blow on him and encase him in ice but the ref said "Cut that crap out, Super." and Super said "But, you're allowing him to pull down on the back of my neck when I get inside!" and the ref said "But that doesn't give you hypothermia, dinkface." and then Cosell of course agreed with the sentiment.
I'd say that was unfair, Superman not allowed to use his superpowers...but Ali is allowed to use his super fast jab, and super fast, confusing footwork. Superman's eyes could not keep up with Ali's feet, I'm assuming this is one of the many reasons why Superman ate so many jabs.
It sucks that this wasn't sanctioned because how awesome would that be on his resume? Nobody would rate Joe Louis over Ali if that Super fight had been sanctioned. I blame Don King.
I blame Arum aswell...just because I can. Yeah Ali would definitely be rated above Louis if he had beaten Superman (It would also put him right behind Robinson in my book ). What location would you have Ali v Superman?
